A hybrid fantasy sports championship - the VFSC

Greg, Tom, what thinks ye of this idea?

The NFBC is the clear leader in the realm of high stakes fantasy baseball. The NFFC is also the best high stake fantasy football event, in my opinion. Still, the fantasy sports industry is devoid of a combination of the two into one event/championship.

Enter, the VFSC - the Vegas Fanatasy Sports Championship. Run by Krause Pubs of course.

:)

The hardcore fantasy players among us, I think they'd like the idea of an event where they can, essentially take everyone on H2H. Win the league, and you win the grand prize, well, make that win both leagues, both baseball and football, and you win it all! The nice thing here, is the element of control, no more worrying about what OTHERS do, in leagues you aren't in, where you have no control, nope, win your league, and win it all. It's totally up to you.

It would all depend on the numbers, but for baseball, you would compete ONLY against those in your league, against just 15 others. Then the top 2 from each league(would depend on how many signed up, ie. 7 baseball leagues, you'd take the top 2 from each league), at some point close, but prior to NFFC draft weekend(as early as the All Star Break or as late as week 20 or so would be the cutoff), would go to Vegas again in the fall, the same weekend as the NFFC, and compete for the VFSC.

The baseball drafts would take place the same weekend as the NFBC, either thursday, friday, saturday after the NFBC, or Sunday after the Ultimates.

So many ways you could slice this, depends on if enough people like the idea, and then upon what kind of entry fee/prize structure was the most palatable, but to just throw something out there for starters, if you had 105 signup for $650 each, that would be enough for a $50K grand prize to the last man standing at the end of the football season, plus a small 2nd place prize to the runner up.

Obviously, this would only appeal to those who already planned on participating in both the NFBC and the NFFC anyway and wanted to augment their Draft experiences with a little more fantasy fun, as well as having more control over their destiny in a truly unique competition.

Greg - please take a look at adding this as a satellite option. I think there are plenty of people who would be interested.

you can keep deleting posts of people who disagree with you but I think having to play an extra two leagues to prove you're the champion at both sports is not too smart. Its only going to prove that your willing to play in a bunch of leagues. Plus why compete against yourself.

Just to clarify, this could be ok as a throw-off side league, but it would be silly to pretend that winning it makes you a champion.

This is just my opinion of course.

Sorry, the post was a famous quote from the movie Billy Madison. Not meant to be taken literally.

If a guy is in 2nd at qualifying deadline and then finishes 5th in baseball as of today, does he get an "*" next to his FB team name?

What he posted can be taken several ways and is confusing.

What he posted can be taken several ways and is confusing. In an effort to avoid being too verbose, perhaps I ended up lacking clarity. Many of the details would depend on how many teams would enter, what people prefer/find more appealing, etc.

But one scenario would be this:

105 people sign up to form 7 Baseball Leagues. All 7 Baseball Leagues draft in the spring, season starts on opening day and ends during the All Star Break. At that point, all the Baseball Leagues end. The Baseball League Standings are finalized, no further accumulation of stats, no movement in the standings from that point on. The top 2 teams in each Baseball League would advance to form 1 Football League of 14 teams that would draft in Vegas during NFFC weekend.

The Winner and 2nd place finisher of the Football League only would go home with all of the winnings, with the vast majority obviously going to 1st place.

--------------

That's the concept in a nutshell, but most of the particulars are not etched in stone. If there's not enough demand to form 7 Baseball Leagues, that number could be trimmed and take the top X number from each league. Furthermore, there's nothing magical about ending the league at the All Star Break, you could extend the baseball leagues through week 20 and end it then. It also wouldn't HAVE to be Vegas, but that makes the most sense, or, at least would be the most fun. I may be biased because I like Vegas.

I just wanted to throw the general idea out there and see what people thought and see if it had legs. With flexibility and feedback, the most appealing version of this would emerge. For instance, Perry's suggestion of adding at least a portion of this as a Satellite option.

[/QUOTE]Thanks...

Why not start with FB.... play out all of FB... then play out all of baseball?

Why do baseball in Vegas? Why not do two rounds per week starting Jan 15 right here on the MB?
