I started listing those players in early October. Some players will move up and others will move down. You need to have the players in some reasonable order when it come to draft day. I think I have put them in some sort of order where I can look at a group of names and make a quick decision on who I need to draft at each position.

This will be the first time that I'll have set goals to reach in each cat for a baseball draft. Honest.

I never thought that deeply about that...so we'll see how that works out come OCT.

I'd love to have anyone from BaseballMafia.com that wants to participate. Heck, it can be BaseballMafia.com every Wednesday in February if they want to take that day or night over. Jesse, Shawn, Dustin and Eddie are all invited to grab a spot on here if they'd like to share some baseball insight and have fun on the boards. Whatta say guys?

Wait, Jesse has to cash in the Luny League before he can give roto advice here... ;) ;)

hmmm, for that matter, I have to cash in the Luny League also....

I'm sure people have looked at my past teams and seen what players I have drafted. I'm sure it is pretty well known that I'm a balanced player.

Eddie Gillis told me the other day he would be surprised if I ended up in the top 10 again. He thought it was just the law of averages. He has read everything I have written and he still doesn't believe in some of my drafting styles.

Everyone pays $1300 for a chance to draft their opinion. I don't think I have or tried to influence anyone to get on board on any players. I stated some observations about all the players. Some obvious and other what I saw when I looked a little deeper.

If I told you I would draft BJ Upton before Brandon Phillips? Would you pull the trigger on draft day? I don't think so.

1) Wow what a 4 year run-

2) I think it will be a long time if ever before someone duplicates it.

Well done!

As for me I am not going to be the one betting on that it stops this year and as I have said before I look forward to meeting you- I just hope I have to walk across the room to do it.

"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."

Exactly, Q.

...and you are 100% correct, Shawn...the A) and B) you listed will separate the winners from the competitive.

What I've also learned from your great articles on Baseball Mafia...

(I guess I could have dug this up on my own with little effort...but you opened my eyes with these nuggets.)

Runs are slightly more valueable than RBI. I always banked a bit more on RBI, and at the very least thought they were equal. Thank you.

Here are my notes from your articles...great stuff!

Notes for 2008 NFBC…

Target goals for all 10 categories…(Top 20% or better)

AVG: .285 or higher.

HR: 300 or more.

RBI: 1125 or more.

RUN: 1150 or more.

SB: 160 or more.

W: 105 or more.

ERA: 3.75 or less.

WHIP: 1.25 or less.

SO: 1250 or more.

SV: 95 or more.

NFBC season = 26 weeks of setting lineup.

Pitching…

4 wins and 48 K per week.

Consider double starts if falling behind.

9 P slots…7 SP = 1100 K, 2 RP = 150 K

Draft Closers who get high K

157 K per SP.

3 Closers. (if possible)

95 Saves, 2-40 SV closers, and a spot starting 3rd. (in waiting?)

Try to only start 2 RP to load up on SO early in the season.

Hitting…

Daily = .285, 7 R, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 1 SB.

Weekly = .285, 45 R, 12 HR, 44 RBI, 7 SB

Bench players who will miss At Bats during the week. (unless superstar)

FRIDAY DL…

If I have a player officially on the MLB DL by Friday at 12pm…I can swap him out.

(Maximize weekend at bats and starts.)

I hope I'm not in the same league as you this year, Lanceroo. Every pick its gonna take you the full minute to shuffle through all of Shawn's notes before you pick! :D

Don't forget your calculator!

And take Pineiro's name off any paperwork that you bring.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

I've got a cool idea for a cheatsheet...no more than two sheets!

I'll show you at the draft.

My only real gamble this year will be on Francisco Liriano!

I just purchased Baseball America 2008 Almanac to go with the Forecaster and Bill James book.

I also grabbed a book called "Dominate your Fantasy Baseball League" by David Sabino.

I don't recall his name...so I doubt he's played or won here...but if it has even one worthy note...it'll be worth the $20.

My life's an open book! :D

Usually, books that are called "How to dominate your Fantasy Baseball League" should be subtitled "Here is information you can get free on the internet, thank you for the 20 bucks".

Guaranteed you will learn more from the info garnered from Shawn in your last post than you will from the book.

Let me know how BA works out for you, never have purchased it.

Lance im with you , people have forgotten about Liriano .He's been going in the 10th round or later , a really nice upside pick.I had my shot at him in the Childs Classic but couldnt pass on Myers.I was hoping he would make it back but 5 picks later Childs himself snatched him.

Liriano will probably move up a couple rounds if he can have a good and healthy spring.

About Shwan cracking the top ten again would be amazing and a good thing for the baseball mafia.

BUT the law of avg will be watching him.

as a former gambler i can tell you there really isn't a law of averages- never bet against the streak. betting against the childs record would be like betting against tiger woods. although injuries can stop anyone.
