Fanball.com 10-Team Mock Draft

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Wed Dec 09, 2009 8:52 am

Fanball runs a lot of different draft formats for their four baseball magazines each year and in the Fanball.com Baseball Annual they will list a 10-team, 5x5 Rotisserie format. We just completed that 10-team draft, which was a breeze compared to anything I've done before!! :D I know that most of our NFBC guys probably don't compete in 10-team formats, but it's still good to see where the top players went in the early rounds.

I'll post the first 10 rounds here -- the Top 100 players -- and you can see the rest of the draft when you pick up the Fanball.com Annual. Enjoy:

Fanball.com 10-Team Mock Draft

Post by Less than Dave » Wed Dec 09, 2009 6:10 pm

I've been playing CDM/Fanball games for about 8-9 years, so I am quite familiar with the 10-team leagues (Draft and Play)... NFBC is a TOTALLY different game, however. Personally, I like both. Obviously it's much more challenging to draft in a 15-team league.. you could easily miss out on an entire position, especially closer and catcher, and have no substitutes for them in NFBC, whereas in Fanball, you can always pick up solid players through Free Agency pretty easily... You can take more risks on injury-prone or high upside players in Fanball because their replacement player values are MUCH higher than in NFBC.. plus, you only gotta beat 9 other teams to make money, and getting 2nd or 3rd gets you at least your money back in the higher priced games.. what's not to like about that?

I agree -- which is why in this format I never pick closers. I feel I need to find some young cheap pitching and there will always be closers who emerge.

Additionally, I'd rather focus on a few young guys who have legit upside. If they don't work out, you can always pick up a veteran who will be sitting on the wire.

Big difference between 10 and 15 but both offer a little bit of everything.

Ryan E. Houston, Ah great your pumping the 10 team fanball draft. So this would rank right up there with the Free ESPN draft. Which has nothing to do with high stakes drafts. Leave the driving to Greg and Tom. Past mag's were Rotowire, Rotoworld etc. Now it's just Fanball. Extra charges for some events that caused many of the former players to leave that other high stakes game have surfaced. I have no doubt that many will come to post how great you are and how I should be kicked off the site. Which I'm sure will happen sooner than later. ;)

I was pretty happy with the team I drafted in this league. There's a lot of strong talent available in a 10-team format so every team has a shot to load up but I was happy with how this draft went.

On the other hand ... we had a 15-team NFBC style draft yesterday. I pretty much sank to the bottom in that one. I had the first pick and took Pujols and it pretty much went all downhill after that.
