Bids are based on need, so an overbid is warranted in some cases. I suppose you could take the time to "pretend" to be the manager of each team and project what you think they would bid on, and then go 10% higher than the highest projected bid by another team.

I'm sure some people with only one team try this. But with the way that free agent values fluctuate on Saturday and even Sunday right before bidding, there is simply not enough time to pretend to be 15 managers. You have to go by feel.

Like how we got Alfredo Simon 123-110 in the $1300 NY Auction. The number popped in my head. As simple as 1-2-3 Simon was.

I got Miguel Montero for $110 runner up $6.

Don't you love it when they say "I won the player?"

The only time you "win the player" is if the difference between you and the next bid is so small that he is pissed off.

Here are the top six from my Sat. Leauge.

---------------BID----Runer----Overbid---------

hermida --------178 24 154

L. Hernandez 113 12 101

B. Beosch 111 8 103

matt harison 100 3 97

leake --------178 95 83

Ike Davis 435 353 82

Guzman ---------82 1 81

Boesch and Davis are mine. I have like $320 left. This is my 3rd year and I was never so aggresive with bidding early. Should be interesting for me the rest of the way. Last week got Narveson for $3 - I'm hoping maybe it will ballance out as I avoid the $17 - $35 bids with no runner ups by necessisty.

Rafael Perez takes the cake... a bid of $1 would be overpaying...

Matt Harrison is a close 2nd

Top five overbids in NY6 so far, by $$ overbid:

Player Bid R/U Overbid

Alfredo Simon 377 77 300

Andruw Jones 185 56 129

Tyler Colvin 109 28 81

Russell Branyan 82 8 74

Jeremy Bonderman 77 17 60

Top five overbids without a runner-up bid:

Player Bid

Freddy Garcia 60

Felix Pie 59

Dallas Braden 54

Ryan Hanigan 48

Oliver Perez 48

Yep that was me on Freddy Garcia. Sweet! So one of your league's top five overbids was only $8? If so that's phenomenal.
No, the first list shows the winning bid, then then the runner-up bid, then the amount of the overbid. I assume you're referring to Branyan... winning bid was 82, runner-up was 8 = overbid of 74. Good times.

Right now though it doesn't like there's such thing as any overbid on Andruw Jones... wow.

Bid $186, runner up $11

Bid $236, runner up $102

Bid $83, runner up $19

Bid $42, runner up $1

I picked up Andruw a couple of weeks ago on my DP-When he is on your team, he doesn't give you that warm and cozy feeling that those looking from the outside assume we are getting. Low BA, bench time and waiting for the other shoe to drop. I do love the SB's.

Mike Leake 50..runner up was 8...ouch.

I was debating on him or Cecil and Brett went for 47....grrr.

Went Leake cause of the weak NL Central and even the cards struggle against rookies...ok that last part is a reach but the NL central is weak

a few good ones in my leagues this week (DPs), sad to say a couple of these were mine. i like the medlen pickup, but I think $139 was a bit rich.

Randy Wolf $296 $108

Aaron Harang $78 $1

Starlin Castro $205 $10

Jhoulys Chacin $276 $53

Aaron Rowand $176 $22

Brett Myers $91

Starlin Castro $374 $205

Kris Medlen $139 $5

Joba Chamberlain $150 $25

i was happy to pick up Brett Anderson in one of the leagues where he was dropped. :D

This is a strange team in a strange league. Although there are 24 LDP leagues, this league (AC 3/20) has 4 teams in the top 27. My team is 27th overall and 4th in the league. My offense has the most points of any LDP team (1328 out of 1440), but my pitching has been really bad (609 out of 1440). Also picked up Blanton, which should help. Scherzer and Hammel have killed me

Manuel Corpas $253 $104

Derek Holland $276 $126

Jeff Francis $76

Jose Contreras $250 $75

On the flip of the terrible bid--we bid 157 on Holland today, runner up bid was 157. We must have been lower seed, because we got Holland.

I am guilty of Russell Branyan too. I overbid by 100 :( ...168 runner up 68.

I also liked Hank Blalock. I couldn't decide who to take out of the two. Could some pros weigh in on their advice?

Blalock or Branyan and why?
I actually like these bids too and can understand why some were high. Personally I wouldn't have bid that much on Blalock who is in a platoon but if you're desperate at CI, I can see it. Not a believer in Francis either. If desperate for homers and rbis, going all out for Boesch makes sense but I don't think he hits over .280 from this point forward (i'm also just mad that i missed out on him last week so I hope he stops hitting!).
