"Junk" is just my opinion-

I hold grudges. A flaw in my character since I can remember. It still steams me that Maury Wills won the MVP over Willie Mays in 1962. Wills broke Ty Cobb's stolen base record and THAT is what writers remembered....Stupid writers.

Another one was Kerry Wood beating Todd Helton for Rookie of the Year. Ridiculous. The writers remembered that big strike out game by Wood though and that was that...Stupid writers

Here is a trivia question and record that nobody will get or break-

Willie Mays is the only ballplayer in history to have a home run in every inning from 0ne to 16. His 16th inning home run ended the infamous pitching duel between Juan Marichal and Warren Spahn. Both pitchers pitched every inning.

I'm still not used to this site. I've tried, but it just isn't friendly to me. 'Saving' my free agent bids, dropping players by their first names, looking at zero's when I click a category, not being able to see what players are on other teams easily....there are more, but those bother me the most.

Free agents are now done in record time, but it looks like other improvements are slow in coming.

First round picks in the NFBC are underachieving. In looking at the top home run and rbi guys in each league, Miguel Cabrera with 40 rbi is the only first rounder to be seen near the top.

Who goes higher in the mid-season leagues, Jason Bay or Jose Bautista?

"The Machine" is hitting like the Tin Man.

Mark Shapiro is a sharp man. He has left that franchise void of talent and moved up the Management chain before he could be blamed.

We live in Grand Junction, Colorado. Our town hosts the Junior College World Series.

I am looking so forward to seeing probable first pick Bryce Harper play this year. The Nats have a chance to do a "Tampa" with all his young talent they're getting.

Eighth inning, behind 2-1, Charlie Manuel let Roy Halladay hit for himself last week, instead of pinch hitting for him.

Too much respect for Halladay, or too little respect for the bullpen?

In Gaylord Perry's autobiography, he said that one of his favorite drinks was a coke with peanuts.

Who uses more smoke and mirrors-

Doug Fister, Livan Hernandez, or Carlos Silva?

I'll guess that Hernandez won't be around at years end.

That does remind me though that the Dodgers were called the "Trolley Dodgers" for a short time, then it was shortened to just "Dodgers".

By the way, Mays two most memorable home runs, in his mind, were the 16th inning homer off Spahn and his first homer....also off Spahn.

wilbur wood pitched both ends of a double header twice in 1973 ( i think that was the year) didn't complete both games though. harry carey had a riot with that.

i don't think reggie sanders charged the mound in that game against pedro. he was playing the padres I believe.

i vaguely remember a game in '85 between the cards and mutts where tudor and gooden went 10, maybe even 11 each. could be wrong, but ended up 1-0 i believe.

damn, tudor went 10 twice in a 5 game stretch. 10 shutout in each, one he won, the other the pen lost in 11.

I’m not old enough to speak about Wills over Mays, although today is my BD and I’m one year older.

And you’re right about the writers. They are like most Tea Party activist, stubbornly uninformed about the facts. But whether it was luck or because of a bias against Coors Field, they did get Wood over Helton correct.

And one game shouldn’t make a season, but that one-hit twenty strike out game by Wood still ranks highest according to Bill James’ ‘Game Score’ for any 9 inning game. Higher than any no-hitter or even any perfect game.

Not that I’m biased. Go Cubs!

We'll have to agree to disagree on the Helton Wood award

I try to follow some of the overlooked things in baseball. Recently I've been rooting for Aki Iwamura to not get a hit. Until yesterday, he had gone 34 at bats without a hit. He 'ruined' it with a single in the ballgame yesterday. The record is 46 straight at bats without a hit. A fellow by the name of Bill Bergen did it in 1909 (No, I didn't know the guy).

I was hoping we could modernize that record and Icky Aki was a perfect guy for the job. Oh well.

So, did anybody play Iwamura during that streak?

To put it in a little more perspective, Iwamura does not have a rbi in May. Until yesterday, he only had two hits in May.

Even including his two hits yesterday, he is batting .074 during May.

Ya know, there are times I wish I was older so that I could have seen the Mays’ and Aarons’ and Robinsons’ and Killebrews’ in their prime instead of the end of their careers. But I also think about how I’ve grown up with the Bench’s and Brett’s and Schmidt’s’ and Dawson’s and Maddux’s and how one day I’ll take grandson’s out to Wrigley and tell them about the good ole days.

Of course my three daughters are only 12, 10, and 5 so I might be telling grandsons about the Heyward’s and Strasburg’s
