Add to my team Ellis Burks 1996 613ab 211 h 40hr 142r 128rbi 32sb .344 avg. What can I say? I thought he would be gone by the early 3rd round. But here he is.

I also had McGwire ranked right near Helton as well so I think that pick was where it should be as well. Nice pick.
Also Ellis Burks has one of the more unexpected seasons in history. I mean he was a damn good player but when you look at that stat line it is shocking. It was before the humidor but either way it is damn impressive.

Russ Ford and the scuff ball info is very interesting as well. He was also a great pick at this point in the draft as he could have easily went earlier on. Also nice pick.

Obviously people took his position in account when passing on him, but wow, that was one excellent season.
Nice pick.

So much fun to read this.
Here are a few observations thru the first three rounds.
Round one featured 9 players in the 1900-1910 years. Rounds two and three had only 5.
Through three rounds, no player in the 50s had been selected. Roy Campanella changed that in round four.
In rounds one and two, only 5 players in the 90s and beyond were selected. Round three had 7 such selections.
No players in the 1800's have been selected.
The 1900's are leading with 9 selections. The 1930's are next with 8.

Before we get to ROUND 5, we should probably make sure we are all on the same page with respect to the blind picks to Doughboys.
Though actually, I have an idea....
What if after 4.15, we stop and give a 24 (or whatever) hour limit and we all make out lists. Team 1 would have 1 name, Team 2 would have 2 names, etc. We all send them to Doughboys and Dan goes through them, awarding the highest remaining player off the top from our lists and letting each of us know, then posts the names of the 15 players in alphabetical order without the seasons.
This way, no team can glean a hint as to who took who by having been told that player has been taken at their pick. Also, we are guaranteed of having the round be done in 1 day and don't have to keep checking to see if it is our turn to send the pick to Dan then wait to see if it is still available.
Apologies in advance if this was already discussed - I have a lot going on and may have missed the blind round instructions..
thoughts?

Jon,
Pretty tough choice between Wagner's 1901 and 1905 season there. Really tough!

thoughts? I think a lot of teams may be completely switching directions depending on if a certain guy or two is available to them so It may be difficult to compile a list for every scenario.Of course Dave and I happen to be picking at 5.1 so this won't really be an issue for us in round 5. I am fine with what the group decides.
Actually, now that I think about it, I suppose those picking on the very ends would be at a bit of a disadvantage since we would always be picking first or last and would not be able to make the educated guesses that everyone else might. Curious to see what others think also. I guess I'm undecided for now. [/QUOTE]The whole point is this is the BLIND round and we are not supposed to know who has been picked.
If you take Smith, then team 2 tells Dan they want Smith, he says they are gone and they know you took Smith.
My point is, we cannot adjust on what has happened, because we don't KNOW what has happened.
Sure, Team 15 has to take longer with their list, but in round 10, their list is a single name.

I think to combat this however, if a player is notified that he tried to select a player that has already been taken, the entire league should also hear that information.
For example, if Shawn's top guy happens to be the guy that we selected first, the entire league should know that Shawn tried to select a player that has already been drafted and needs to pick again.

Still would like to figure out a way to expedite the process and keep it fair, otherwise the back and forth could take quite awhile, especially at the end of the round.
What if we all send in one name at a time -- Dan can award the players until there is a conflict.
He then announces the name of the conflict and we all send in another name -- ALL OF US.
He picks up where he left off -- LATHER, RINSE REPEAT
We would have to work out the time limits between each conflict, but we should still get it done faster this way and no one knows WHEN the conflict occurred, just the name of the player, which we are all going to know at the end anyway.

I draft 15 so some of you think I’m at the biggest disadvantage. However, for this to be a “blind” round, no one can know “who picked who”. For instance if Team 2 selects Don Mattingly, but Dan tells him he has already been selected. Team 2 know knows Team 1 took Mattingly. That is NOT a blind pick. Even if the information is given to the whole league that Team 1 took Mattingly, it puts Team 1 ayt a distinct disadvantage. Again, NOT a “blind” pick. No deal from my perspective.
Todd’s suggestion makes perfect sense (and I’m the guy who is theoretically at the biggest disadvantage). Good job Todd.
