Guys I will be back on line at 10:30 am. I have a meeting until then. I stayed on late last night and got on early today hoping to get through my pick so I did not have to delay things at all but it was not meant to be. Sorry if I delay things at all. I will be back at 10:30 am.

While we wait………………………… Some Hal Newhouser Stuff®

Newhouser is one of just 3 pitchers ( C Hubbell, W Johnson) to win the MVP award twice, and he is the only one to do it in back to back seasons (’44-45)

Newhouser tried to enlist in the Army several times during WWII but was declared 4-F because of a leaky heart valve.

During the 3 year stretch from 1944-46 when many of the top players were out of the game during the war, Newhouser was 80-27 with a 1.99 era

Newhouser started 3 games in the 1945 World Series against the Cubs. He was 2-1 including a game 7 complete game win.

Hal won 207 games during his career which is tied for 100th on the all-time list. There are just 111 pitchers that have won 200+ games. Some comparables to Newhouser…..D Drysdale (209), V Blue (209), O Hershiser (204), J Chesbro (198), and E Walsh (195).

Newhouser was on the HOF ballot 14 years, he only topped 27% once and was dropped off the ballot in 1976. Hal Newhouser was inducted to the HOF in 1992 by a vote of the Veterans Committee.

I even had someone who was supposed to call me if I was up in the draft as they have been following it as well and they flaked on me. So once again sorry. I know how hard it is to sit around waiting as I stayed up until 1 am last night and was up at 6 am today hoping to get my pick in as I knew today would be busy. Just bad timing today.

Sorry Gents, I'm still at work and have been in meetings all afternoon. However, I do have my pick.

Again, which direction to go on each pick is getting more difficult. However, I've decided I don't want to get shut out of getting a quality closer. When deciding on which closer, I decided I was going to put a premium on total saves and the best possible ratios as I felt that would leave me the most options moving forward. There are still a few closers remaining that fill that description. However when reviewing each, I was shocked to find that the one that fit what I was looking for the most is.......

Armando Benitez 2004

SV - 47

W - 2

ERA - 1.29

WHIP - 0.81

K - 62

Yes, another Met. Though one I'm not quite so proud to call one of my Mets. Still he now has a place on my All-Time Fantasy Squad.

Before breaking his ankle, Jason Kendall was a lead-off hitter and stole some bases. In fact, only three catchers stole more bags than Kendall did.

I will take 1998 Jason Kendall.

Since 1901?

John Wathan, Ray Schalk and ????

Wasn't Bresnahan, only 11 games at catcher in 1903.... I can't find that third guy! All of which makes IROD so amazing in 1999. Steroid issues aside, a true 5-category catcher. The only one.... ever.
