Main Event scoring questions

Post by Atlas » Mon Apr 30, 2007 7:02 am

Since this appears to be a quieter time on the boards, may I ask a couple of newbie/satillite questions for the big guys in anticipation of possibly joining the big dance next year?

1. With regard to the league by league scoring that's posted. Since everyone pretty much has the same top, oh, 95% of the talent entered, is it fair to say the differences in scores occur only from the bottom 5% of players that may or may not be started for that particular time period?

(i.e., one league has Josh Hamilton and Sammy active while antoher may not?)

Wait, they get tougher.....

2. With regard to scoring for the Main event....

Am I correct in the impression that if you are in a "tougher" league, it actually makes it more difficult, vs. someone who is leading a lesser league and is able to accumulate a much better score? (Note: I am not suggesting a flaw in the scoring system, just trying to understand the nuances)

3. Additionally, are the league leaders the only ones who's score are considered? If I understand the scoring method correctly (and I may not), I see scenarios whereby someone finishing second in their league could actually finish higher (than their respective champion) if the raw scores are compared to the entire field as a whole.

Again, my son and I are first time satilliters who are eyeing next year and have been bouncing these question back and forth with pie-in-the-sky

anticipation.

Any light that anyone could shed would be appreciated...Tom/Greg??

Any light that anyone could shed would be appreciated...Tom/Greg?? No. 3: Yes, you could finish second in your league and actually win the overall title. You can win a league title by tanking one category, but obviously in the overall race you must be consistent in all 10 categories as each one is worth 375 points. Make sense?

No. 2: I guess it's possible, but I'd say that each league is tough. If you're in a league where all 15 owners are actively picking up free agents, that makes it tougher to win it all. But obviously if points are dispersed more evenly among all 15 teams, it makes it tougher to win the overall title.

No. 1: Some of the differences in scoring could be from starting lineups as well. The seven reserves and working two-pitch starters could be the difference in some of the league-by-league scoring. It's just a stat that our owners asked for in 2004 and we created to show overall points. Don't put too much weight in those numbers, though.

Feel free to keep asking the newbie questions.

Main Event scoring questions

I'll testify to Greg's answer re. question #3... our team (Schwartzstops) won Chicago 2 last year and finish 6th in the country, but our league runner-up (Bambinos) finished 4th in the country.

What's rorse, we were 4th in the country on the last Friday morning of the season and fell to 6th after a bad final weekend!

You know, I was just playing the rules out in my head and wasn't sure if NFBC just lined up all the champions (sorta like a playoff) and determined a grand champion, or whether the latter occurred.

The more I thought about it, the more scenerios I came up with where an "also-ran" (no offense Bambinos :D )could actually come out ahead of their respective division winner. Really just wanted to get an accurate feel for how the rules are played out.

Thanks for the help. Good luck this year.
