V-Mart?,we'll see EK.. I have a suspicion,a not too distant 3. As for Andruw Jones, I was hoping that the BA and SB would have him slipping into the 4th round where I would have gladly scooped him up. You're from Georgia I believe, are the Braves going to lock him up or are they going to transition to the McCann/Francoeur generation and allow AJ to walk.

Who's up for playing this draft out? $100 entry - we'll pay the money to Greg. We'll only draft our starters, 14 offense and 9 pitchers. Winner take all. Greg can keep his share, maybe 75% of the pot can go for the prize money. Let's see which one of us has the best draft - no moves, no free agents pickups, you draft your team and see who wins.

Also this will help get a little publicity for the NFBC, if a newbie can checkout a site and see a draft going on then they might get interested.

So who's in? Also, we have to make sure Greg thinks its a good idea

This is a *mock* draft. I for one have no interest in playing for money--or even in playing it out. For one thing, I didn't go in thinking it was going to count or about the rules (I'd never take Thome, for instance, if I knew I couldn't make moves). I approach a mock draft quite differently than a real one. I try to pick the best player at a given time without thinking too much about the overall construction of my team and I avoid picking my sleepers, if for no other reason than I want to see whare they go. Furthermore, at this point in the offseason I am not prepared to compete seriously. It's more a matter of not wanting my record to be affected by a draft I am ill-prepared for than being cheap. I am proud of never being on the wrong end of final league standings, and I don't feel confident in pulling that off in a league in November where I can't make moves.

Brian has pointed out the differences between a mock and a real draft and the mindset of each. But to further complicate things this is an open mock draft with Managers taking over for other Managers when they can't get online for 12-24 hours. Truly a logistics nightmare.

This is strictly just for fun and a good way to kill some time, constructively, during the off season.

Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

What about some sort of compromise on the play it out thing- one I completely agree with bjoak you put no moves on after a pick like Thome and he would go 2 rounds later.

10 rounds on here for the public and then we move it in to the satellites for the last 20 picks in private at a later date? Obviously play by regular NFBC rules. You cannot tell me anyone has really tanked a pick yet to hide something? We could also take this thing to email after round 3? We could also start scratch from email with Dan Kenyon operating as commish or someone else essentially saying we draft one round every day?

I would enjoy playing against some diehards- I have played with bjoak, Dan, and spy before makes it a more enjoyable league.

I also understand Brian's point about level of preparation but 2 things there 1)we are all at that point 2) preparation comes much more in to play after round 10.

Thoughts on my idea?

I'd say leave it as is. I will not play out this league and I'd rather not have to quit the mock. I'm enjoing it when it goes.

In terms of preparation 1) I disagree. I am probably behind y'all cuz I've done zero and 2) I didn't say I'd lose; I'm just leaving much more to chance than I'm comfortable with.

I don't think it needs to be hidden either. I don't have a problem with this type of thing. Believe it or not, I am actually in favor of satellite picks being revealed for the edification of everyone; I just don't think the owners who made the picks should be revealed. In this format, it's fine.

Chest if you want to set something up, I'm fine with it. I think it s/b private though. 30 picks $100 winner take all. No moves, just the draft. Let's see if we can get 15 reliable people that want to play.

Thoughts on my idea? All right now. We got some owners that might want to put some money down. I guess I got excited. I saw some of the owners picks and thought it was going to be easy money. :) $100, what's $100. I walk outside the door and drop $100. Gas, food, kids, wives, girlfriends, but I'd be up for a little draft this off season. Maybe we can wait until this one is over and see who wants to put some money down for some fun. I have nothing to hide, I don't even mind if it is on the message board for the entire 23 rounds. I am sure that my draft in November will be a lot different than the one in March.

If you guys decide to do anything, let me know.

I am at least interested. Maybe it could be run on Mock central like the sat. leagues. I would accept moves as it would be awful hard not too with injuries etc. I was just trying to make it easier on myself since I will again be in several leagues and it gets hard to make all the moves come Sunday. If you have several teams that's a lot of free agent searching you must do for faab. I also think the current guys drafting should get right of first refusal. If they don't want to participate then we'll find others.

In a good example of how baseball is not quite what it used to be (i.e. little "family" ownership, all corporate asset), the Braves are being sold by the aXXholes at Time-Warner (you know the guys who won't let Shuerholtz spend more than $80m on the team) to a cableco because the team increases the tax benefit to the participants. As an "asset" to TW, there is no way the Braves could afford Andruw. He says he will play with the Braves in '07 and veto any trade until he becomes a free agent after the '07 season. If the sale is complete, the new owners MIGHT loosen up the purse strings and try to hold on to Andruw. Sitting here in November, my guess is the Braves will be the beneficiary of his run for the big(ger) bucks, but it will be bye-bye Andruw after '07.
