Keeper counsel...

Post by sportsbettingman » Wed Mar 01, 2006 12:59 pm

Hey Gang!

I'd appreciate any honest advice to make me feel better about who I keep as my last 2 or 3 out of 15 keepers.

Standard 5 X 5, 12 teams...everyone keeps 15 players each year.

My team...

Obvious keepers...

1) SP Pedro Martinez

2) SP Rich Harden

3) CL Billy Wagner

4) 3B David Wright

5) C Victor Martinez

6) SS Jose Reyes

Top teir of remaining options...

7) 1B Jim Thome

8) OF Podsednik

9) 1B Jason Giambi

10) OF JD Drew

11) SP A. J. Burnett

12) CL Armando Benitez

13) OF Jeremy Hermida

14) OF Delmon Young (got to lock these two in)

15) 3B/SS Nomar

16) SP CC Sabathia

17) CL Derrick Turnbow

18) SP Scott Kazmir

19) OF Preston Wilson (in HOU ballpark)

20) 1B Mike Sweeney

21) DH Frank Thomas

...and other garbage.

It's a 2 C's, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, MI, CI, 5 OF's, 2 UTIL, 7 SP, 2 CL as starters league.

Sorry for wasting your time...the other 11 teams keepers are not announced until they are all in...the hardcore of you may chip in...I'd appreciate your input.

Those are my potential keepers...15 to keep...which 6 players would you NOT keep and why? ...would you target any of the ones dropped in the early rounds of my draft if you were me (round "16" on to 30)...depending of course on studs dropped by the other 11 teams.

Thanks!

~Lance

Lance - I think this is actually easier than it looks...but that's one man's opinion.

Here is my answer

Obvious keepers...(agreed and :D very nice)

1) SP Pedro Martinez

2) SP Rich Harden

3) CL Billy Wagner

4) 3B David Wright

5) C Victor Martinez

6) SS Jose Reyes

Others I would keep

7) 1B Jim Thome

8) 1B Jason Giambi

9) OF JD Drew

10) SP A. J. Burnett

11) OF Jeremy Hermida

12) OF Delmon Young (assuming you can keep him for several years as he won't help you much this year and you will have to get a replacement)

13) 3B/SS Nomar

14) CL Derrick Turnbow (or Benitez, I prefer Turnbow)

15) SP Scott Kazmir

The one that is not obvious is tossing back Podsednik, but since you already have Reyes and will get some SB from Wright and Drew and Hermida, you would be keeping an excess that doesn't help you and his deficiencies in power would weaken your offense.

Good Luck

I think you have to keep Pods over Drew (injury risk) and/or Nomar.

Thanks Captain and Baseball...

I agree I have pretty good speed...and also feel after trying to dump Pods for power...I got little action on the trading last season (4 trades max).

I also feel he tore up the league before injury...had pop in the playoffs...so his value should be pretty high...considering all the games he missed. (SB)

I need Runs, AVG, and RBI the most (judging from last season)...thanks for both your input.

Maybe you try for the best of both worlds. Try to trade Pods now - before your draft. If you can get good value, you should end up with a player better than Nomar. If you can't get good value, maybe you keep Pods for an in-season trade.
