When will Shelton slow down??

Post by GOD Loves You » Mon Apr 17, 2006 6:46 am

Everytime I look to see who scored for the Tigers.......low and behold it's Chris Shelton belting another HR!

Will he ever slow down? Or is he destined for a 50+ season?

A team in my satellite has Shelton, Hafner, and Thome. Needless to say with those hitters and their pitching they are ABSOLUTELY dominating right now. Which leads me to another question.....

Would you rather have your team OVERLY exceeding your expectatations right now, and dominating your league??? But in the back of your mind you know they can't keep it up.....

or

Would you rather have your team UNDER performing right now, getting blown away in categories where you know you are destined to be in the top 3/4, but winning categories you hadn't planned on winning???

Thoughts?

Personally over achieving. Why? because you cannot ever lose those stats where stats that are hoped for (like Manny's first HR) are at risk of not happening. Remember Konerkos giant swoon? Every once in a while some players don't regress towards the mean they just have crap years... Having said that, if you can keep it close while your stars are underperforming, then you can feel good that you have a shot but I personally would want those 27 hr in the bank, not having to try and hope to catch up... Remember this isn't like drafting behind a fast runner in a race. The stats are completely separate...

Thoughts? I agree with you Patrick. Shelton has been unbelievable this year as he hits everything hard and he hits to all parts of the field. He's been amazing and he doesn't show any signs of slowing down. I have him in ZERO leagues as I never thought he would hit as well as last year, which shows you how much I know! :D

I saw Shelton hit in the Arizona Fall League two years ago and the game we went to with Ron Shandler's group Shelton won the game with a bottom of the ninth inning home run. He hit the ball hard every time up and he was leading the AFL in hitting at that time. But when you looked at that physique, you just wondered where the hell he was going to play in the field. It was the biggest butt on a ballplayer I had seen. I just couldn't see him playing fulltime at first base this year, but he seems to handle himself alright and he doesn't need to sprint anywhere when he's hitting everything out of the park. I'm glad I saw him in the AFL in 2004 and I'm happily surprised I was wrong about him.

As for having players get off to fast starts, yeah, who wouldn't want that to happen? This race is an accumulation of stats, so you take them whenever you can get them. There's no guarantee that the final numbers will come out as projected, so take 'em while you can get 'em. I'd LOVE to be in first place in all of my leagues right now, which of course, I'm not! :D
