Spring Training News!

"Despite not planning to report to Red Sox camp until March 1, Manny Ramirez is reportedly scheduled to appear at a car show in Atlantic City Saturday. "There's no question he was coming up," car dealer Tony Avenso said. "He was flying up and staying with me in Atlantic City. He knows his good cars and his bad cars." Various reports have said that Ramirez's absence from camp is due to his ailing mother, who recently underwent surgery." Boston Globe.

Attaboy Manny. You are such a team player and a good family man.

The Chicago Tribune reports that Rich Hill is set to be the Cubs' No. 4 starter, suggesting he won't have to battle for a spot this spring.

"My son has him on his fantasy team, so I can't mess that up," manager Lou Piniella said. "He already has called me up and said, 'Dad, you know ..." Piniella's son knows his stuff, because Hill has a ton of upside if the Cubs stick with him in the rotation all season.

Lou Pinella just got my vote for Manager of the Year!

"Jesus Colome reportedly missed Thursday's workout because of an abscess on his right buttocks. Colome, who is on a minor league deal, is hoping to return to action over the weekend." Washington Post.

Ok. This will not materially impact anyones draft strategy, but this is an injury you just don't hear about that often in baseball. You know I cannot resist, so I will just go ahead and type it. What a pain in the xss!

The Cubs aren't planning on having Mark Prior (shoulder) pitch in any of their first five exhibition games.

Prior hasn't had any setbacks this spring, but the team wants to continue to go slowly with him. The right-hander threw 35 pitches in a batting practice session Sunday. "He cut some balls loose, he felt good after the workout was over, no pain, no discomfort," manager Lou Piniella said. "It's good news when we keep these guys going forward." MLB.com

Hmmmm...a healthy spring? Is that sound I hear Prior moving up in the ADP? Who will be willing to take the gamble?
