Mr. Gecko,
I am trying to figure you out, pal. Either you are one of those self-proclaimed fantasy gurus that gets his kicks by displaying his knowledge, or you think we're all really dumb and would actually buy into the hype you are trying to create for a guy like Ben Sheets, so that one of us tkes him early even though you didn't want him in the first place. Either way, I don't like it, pal. So, please do us a favor and make a post about a player that you would actually consider drafting, because right now, you're walking around blind without a cane, pal!

One could argue that the Gekko Hype Machine actually pressured some owners into drafting King Felix 1 or 2 rounds too early in 2006.
Of course, another GHM player from 2006 was Ryan Howard. As I recall, he did pretty well...

Maybe GG is using reverse psychology? Maybe he is hyping Sheets to give the illusion that he doesn't want him when, in fact, he actually wants Sheets.Or maybe he knows that you know that he's hyping a player he wants and.....

Listen Jimbo - if you were around last year you woulda known that I primarily hyped three player: R.Howard, G.Sizemore, and F.Hernandez. Howard is now a first round pick. Sizemore will go in the first round in a few leagues this year. Hernandez will mostly go in the 6th and may slip to the 7th in a few leagues.
So, in retrospect, I was "spot on" with Howard and Sizemore. With Hernandez, I guess I bought too much of the hype. I have now realized that I can't count on a pitcher so young. Too erratic.
This year, I've touted S.Sosa, Papelbon, and Sheets.
According to my notes, all 3 of them are there for the taking and at a nice profit.

The biggest thing I learned last year was that you have to ignore what others are saying and stick to your gut. If you like Sheets n a certain round and he's there, grab him. If not, well, it sucks, but don't let others influence you. (Especially those who would lead you to believe Utley is a top 10 pick this year!)
All jokes aside, it burns me more to pass on a player because I listened to others and the player does great. We all have different opinions, and every draft I have been in, there has been a couple of players that go very early or very late...that taught me to expect anything.
One player I really like keeps moving up a couple rounds each satellite draft. he's already passed where his value lies (IMHO) Hopefully he won't on draft day, but he may. (And no Gekko, I'm not telling you who. I will after the auction and drafts this weekend)

It doesn't load on my browser (one small pic of a ball and bat and a bunch of "?" marks, like there are images there but can't load)...I ask because I wanted to check out your site and see what it was..."Home of the 1000 player Big List"? I am assuming this is a ranking system? If my assumption is correct, let me know...I might have another comment.

I don't know who you touted last year, and frankly I am not concerned with the past, especially when everyone was touting Ryan Howard, King Felix, and Grady.....come at me with something better then that. Tell me that you were touting Hanley Ramirez, Brian McCann, or Francisco Liriano....then i would give you some street cred, pal! But don't state the obvious.
If you actually draft Sosa, and he does well, then I would give you "props" for that. But, I don't think he, Papelbon, or Sheets will be on your team. And I will find out for sure, because we are in the same league, and I will be drafting right before you.
On another note, Chase Utley is definitely a 1st rounder!

Bottom line is this- Gekko is good for good players. Why because good players know who they want, why they want them, and when they want them. I could not care less whether Gekko thinks that is good or not- and I respect and share ideas privately with him as does he...
With that said if he gets in your head, that is your problem. Some say he is giving misinformation- I say bullsh!t he is at least open with the fact he is trying to get in your head.
The guy you should fear is the total stranger giving you advice or honest thoughts on this board the week of the draft- ever wonder if there is an ulterior motive there? I will give honest thoughts but only to people I think can help me too but that is all done privately.

I have to admit, trying to figure out Gekko's player hyping has started to drive me batty.
First I thought, he is obviously trying to over hype players so that people will draft them too early and lose value
Then I started to get really machiavellian, and I thought, maybe he is trying to create the perception of over hype so we won't take those players early, and he will be able to score value.
Then I gave up and just enjoyed his hilarious posts. I haven't seen any photos though recently

I think gordon knows that Sheets is the real deal or maybe he is trying to pump him up and sell him at a high to a team so they get screwed and he makes out. Hmmmm sounds like a bluestar airline deal to me!

Sheets is the real deal. But is he worth the risk? We'll see what people think in just a few days. To me...he'll be one of a handful of players to decide an owners fate...either big time production or big DL time

Spy As an amateur Gekko analyst, I would say you are spot on. I think his goal shifted over time as his audience caught on to him. More than anything, though, now, he is attempting to be an arbitor who creates his own value by being a catalyst for any kind of fluctuation in the marketplace. In reality, he has little effect but that doesn't matter anyway because his real goal is just to have fun riling people up.
He gets his real satisfaction when a thread like this goes up. Or at least he did before he read Jim Young's last post trying to turn this into a pissing contest in which he told us about his personal leer jet and the statue of himself that the city of Philadelphia erected in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Some people just need to overcompensate for other areas they are born, er, short in.
By the way Gekko, love the **********$$$$$$$ALERT!!!!!!$$$$$$$************ new for this year. Keep up the good work.

So, I talked with GG several times during the last two days - he is in my $1250 auction and said hello during the main draft. I thought he had some great picks and is 'for real'. Much quieter though than I would have guessed! I still down know how the heck his main event leauge let Brandon Phillips fall to the 11th round for him to scoop! Made me jealous. A nice guy and will do well
