I thought long and hard about Granderson. This is a good spot to pick him in, though I think this is his career year, BA wise. I think he has more upside in power and speed than Rios, but he lost the coin toss.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

He could be .300 25/25 or could be .260 15/15.
I think that these drafts are fun, but that people pick players they definitely wouldn't pick. for example, I bet Braun goes in 0 first rounds in the main event or any event $1000 or greater. Why? because the risk adjusted return of a 1st year player is too much. I expect Braun to go mid second round. Ditto for Fielder, I bet he wiil go end of 1st / beginning of 2nd...

What did you (anyone) think about Rios in that spot? Too early?

And your right...these drafts are fun as all drafts are. I looked at Terry Haney's draft and out of the #7 spot he got A-Rod in the first and J. Rollins in the second. Nice.

I like Rios there. He has now put together several seasons (or atleast long stretches before being sick) where he has shown great performance, justifying a 2nd round pick. If Glaus gets better, and the lineup improves at all, it is a great pick IMHO

Spy [/QUOTE]Holy cow! What does Fielder have to do to make him a 1st rounder in at least one draft next year? I couldn't disagree more, I think Fielder will go 1st round in most drafts during the Main.
Where is the risk? And why is Howard a more acceptable first rounder?

Nice points. On Granderson/Rios...I agree on the 20/20 availability, but I have Rios pegged with closer to 30/20 and Granderson at 25/40 potential(Granderson is a legit 30/30 candidate out of the lead-off spot). I went with Rios as he has BA upside Granderson lacks as well Rios bats 3/4 in a nice line-up in a great park. Right age too. It's early, like you say, but neither is too much of a gamble to produce at least solid enough results to warrant the 2nd round consideration.

I like the Rios pick. I think he has shown he can hit 290-300 over several years now. As he's getting a little older he is showing the power they hoped he would have. I wouldn't expect more steals, but he's good with what he's providing now. Wish I tool him in 2007 instead of stubbernly going after Baldelli. I originally thought Braun would go high 2nd round in 2008. In some leagues going in the first. 6th pick surprised me a bit, but it's not out of the question. I wouldn't take him that high. Reasons, sophmore year, and lack of track record. Otherwise I think he will have a great major league career and am happy to say I had him in some leagues last year. Definate first round guy 2009 and beyond unless he really stumbles badly.

Chest Rockwell is up for two. If it gets back to me, I will make my pick early AM as I am off to dreamland (I get up very early).
I have no more problem with Martin (or Martinez, or Mauer) than I do with any catcher taken before the 7th or 8th round. It is good to get the best at a scarce position, but the relative gain has never really been proven to me (of course, Haney pick Martinez in like the third round, so that shows how much I know). Between Reyes and the double digit SB that Martin has potential of from the C spot, Eli is working on the speed angle.

To be honest, I mostly don't agree with position scarcity either, but I was gonna draft VMart with my 3rd pick! Haha. You know, just to see what kind of team I could put together.

I'm guessing that Granderson and Rios will each have better sb and rbi numbers than Soriano next year while coming close enough in hr totals to give them more value in the second than Soriano in the first. Just my opinion
