Having picked Pujols so early, I knew I would not pick a second 1B for some time, so I have been hanging out and wondering when Helton would go. His ADP from last year had him at the round 5/6 turn, so this could be a real nice value pick here. He may not put up the HR numbers he once did, but as long as his back holds up, he his gold pretty much everywhere else you would expect a 1B to be gold. Nice pick.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Cameron and Dunn on the same team is flirting with batting average disaster.

It was worthy of comment because 1B, to me, is not all that deep this year. I was surprised that Helton lasted this long.
Hindsight in drafts is always 20/20 and I am not sure I would have passed on Pujols at #4 anyway, but if you had the majic great crystal ball to know that a Helton would be there at 8/9, maybe you go with a David Wright or the like in the first instead of Albert.

I have a power hitter who hits for avg Manny, a catcher who hits for avg Victor, Helton and most importantly you can pick up avg at 2b which I have open after the turn. It almost makes for certain that you have to employ the high avg hitting 2nd catcher who seldomly plays in round 30 too. Still might not be enough but it is a mock.

A mock is a good opportunity to see how your roster would look.
But to me, it looks like with the other guys you have you could have been on your way to 13+ in BA, maybe even absorbing 1 BA-challenged hitter. But with the 2 guys of that ilk you may be looking middle of the pack.
Just my constructive criticism.

I believed that throwing BA and finishing top 10% in other 9, was a good plan and I finishing 299 out of 300 with it.
I didn't come close to top half in the other nine.

i guess i don't understand the debate on helton cameron pick or the albert and helton debate. helton and cameron were both undervalued at that point by all 3 free measuring services i can look at- stats being one. second- just add up the at bats and hits and divide. i think helton and cameron make a nice match. cameron is a 20-20 guy and if he leaves san diego ( white sox) anywhere is better. on pulhos- i guess so what- if you love the value- but i agree on waiting till next pick- but i wouldn't just keep passing a guy that i love because i already have a 1b. maybe i am missing something here. btw- harang is a better pick now that dusty is the manager- should get 300 innings and 300 k's.

No Albert/Helton debate. Just an observation that Helton fell far enough to be a real value.

9.10 Joba Chamberlain
His value can move in many directions based on the Yankees off-season decisions, but similar to Papelbon last year, he'll be pitching significant injuries somewhere. Or he may retire to pursue his real dream of being an exterminator.
