I was hoping Tavares would fall to me, but that looks like a perfect fit for Sheep with Howard and Fielder in the first 2 rounds.

Wow, Liriano in the 9th. I wonder if he will go this early in the real thing. I had him pegged at 11th round to 12th. Of course it all depends on the health reports about his surgery....

Actually, Footsie, the third round is a bit of a slip for Jeter. He has been a solid 2nd rounder (per his ADP in 2005, 2006, and 2007). Though I am not a fan of his necessarily, you cannot knock his consistent (key word) and high production. Many value consistency over potential especially in the early rounds where gambles can leave you in the cold more often than not.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

At 10.08, Kettleers take Nick Swisher (OF/1B) Oakland A's...and about that Liriano pick, that was a starting pitching slot for me so you could place the proverbial "best available" pitcher in that slot which at this point in time I estimate to be Liriano. Of course, what happens in Spring Training will impact Liriano's value probably to a greater or lesser degree than virtually any other player this coming season.

No question about the potential and ability of your first two starting pitchers. Liriano could go this high easily if he is throwing well in spring. But you do like to gamble as the best thing you could say about your other starting pitcher so far is that Smoltz is younger than me.

I thought you got the Liriano pick correct there, potential to be a top 3 starter and you should be able to at least get 12th round production out of him in half a season. I did not look at your roster I like the pick as long as you had already picked one other starter and a solid closer to anchor.

As EK has already said and as someone that has taken Jeter that high or higher, I will often take the safe consistent pick over the guy with a higher ceiling especially that early. I always say this is not won in the early rounds and as many others have told me it can be lost however, in the early rounds. Stay safe early, make great picks later. Could you be a Mets fan?

Early 3rd for Jeter is intriguing in 2008. I am not sure I agree. I am also not sure I agree with his consistency claim (to some extent). The batting average and runs are always going to be there. But if we look at the other 3 categories, I am not sure I'd tab them consistent. His homeruns have declined over the past 4 seasons (23-19-14-12). His RBI totals have been (78-70-97-73). And most maddening might be his stolen bases (23-14-34-15). By the stolen base trend you should get a bit of a spike in 2008 but I don't know if I'd bank on that. To me, I don't consider him a dependable stolen base guy. In the early 3rd, I like to know what I am getting, and in him I see a jeckel and hyde stolen base threat, declining power, and his comfort zone disturbed (with ole Joe gone). Buyer beware.
Disclosure: I am a Red Sox fan, too.
