SANTANA??? TO THE EVIL EMPIRE???
Hey Rick - how is life on the Least Coast?
I really think most of the hype about a Santana trade is media created - Theo has shown more knowledge about building the franchise and I just can't seem him trading away Buchholz AND Ellsbury for the chance to pay Johan well over $100MILLION
As bad as the Yankees are about player development and especially free agent giveaway$, it would also be stupid for them to trade Hughes and Cano (or Melky) and pay even MORE.
And if those two clubs don't fork it over, the Twinkies can't just give him away -they may well wait until mid season, see where they are and then get what they can if they Have to trade him.

hey hook,
hope all is well and look forward to seeing you in a few months. thanks for chiming in. i much prefer montana to keep it short but there is good oppurtunity here and we are offering plenty of nice wines, fyi.
it seems to me that santana will go soon...i believe they are getting great value for him and his value is at the highest point. are the twins willing to let him start the season and get hurt knowing he will be traded eventually. it would be a huge risk for them to wait i imo. take care RT

SANTANA??? TO THE EVIL EMPIRE???
I think Santana goes next week at the winter meetings. As a card carrying member of Red Sox nation, I would not give up Ellsbury and Buchholz. I like the current rumor of Lester, Crisp, Lowrie and either Masterson or Bowden. If Buchholz is added instead of Lester then I'd want pull out Masterson/Bowden.
However a Yankee deal of Hughes, Melky and Cano is better, so if the Yankees are willing to go that far, they'll get him.
But I agree with RT, his value won't get higher as the season wears on, now is the time.
After seeing what the Mess got for Milledge, I think sometimes it is better to cash in potential for proven. I think the Mess really missed out moving Milledge a few years ago. No one is more proven than Johan. I don't worry about an injury with his as much as other. Pitchers that rely on sliders and curve balls I think are more susceptible to injuries. Santana is primarily fastball-changeup, he has breaking stuff but fastball-changeup is his bread and butter.
I definitely think something happens next week. Should be a great week.

I heard Santana will not go to either the Yanks or the BoSox. I heard the Hiroshima Toyo Carp are making a big play for him!

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

I would be vey surprised if the Twins send Sanatana to the RSox without getting Ellsbury, Buckholtz, and Lester. The Yankees will need to part with Hughes, Melky, and Kennedy but the Twins are still holding out for Chamberlain. The Mets would have to give up Reyes. What intrigues me is what Seattle might be in the bidding with because I don't see anything there.

I don't think the Yanks or Bosox want him at the current prices. More of the just trying to keep him from the other one or drive up the price for the other one. It is a great game of high stakes poker.

The Red Sox want to offer just enough to force the Yankees to include Hughes. In a vacuum, Lester, Crisp, Lowrie and Masterson in a very decent offer. But because the two "known" quantities (Lester and Crisp) are the second best at their position Boston can offer, they are being chided a bit.
