pitching - i like what you did here. above average.

bench - some big names, mostly waiver wire fodder.

overall - not bad for a first mock, but like others have said, i wouldn't be happy walking away from the draft table in march with this team.

gordo- you are a tough grader also. you are way better than me- but i think he gets 290 homers and 155 steals out of that offense. not gonna do the other 3- but look pretty good. interstingly enough i went back last year to look at last years signup page and you had posted your team. i think you posted your 1st 5 picks- and what you wanted. you got none of the players you wanted ( bill hall was one). i think that post and this thread defines this process. 1) you overcame not getting the players you wanted 2) you got lucky someof your targets got taken ( bill hall) 3) some of the guys like bill hall that this guy drafted people are down on because of bad years 4) many people here like shandler- you even go to his live forums 5) shandler says- once you show a skill you own it- it will diminish with age- but you own it. i would say again that this team has many guys that have displayed a skill and are not so old that they still should own it 6) every team has flaws- i looked at all the top teams. look at the post on eddy bettancourts winning team. they had at least 5 busts. but they got great help on waiver wire. a fun game and many opinions.

hunter - I'm going to see shandler because of many reasons...

1) I hate the boringness of winter

2) I like fantasy baseball

3) There is a fantasy baseball forum close to where I live

4) A noted author will be there

WHY NOT GO!!

As for my draft recap last year, no one gets all their picks right. You can only hope to get most of them right.

As for the draft I commented on, I shot straight. If this guy (or you) think that team will bring home the gold in march, he's mistaken.

By the way- I liked Gekkos Top ten - I would walk away happy with them (sans ATG) and it fits well with the theory that you need not worry about WHICH round to draft a player that you like- Sometimes you need to reach to ensure it. Alternatives of course must be queued.

I wasn't completely prepared and made LOTS of mistakes that I have learned from. Basically I'm just saying don't come in like you own the place, arright?

Yeah, I would be sad if I drafted that team, no doubt. But let your playing do the talking. Not that I'm anythign special here yet, but I plan to be.. and I will show that by my playing. I don't know how old you are but I'm guessing around my age... it can be tough here because obviously younger players are WAY outnumbered.. I'm probably the second-youngest player playing here. But there's plenty of good guys here who are willign to help if you listen.. I have learned a TON... you will too in time if you want to. Oh, and Chest, I'm sure you're a nice guy... just basing what I said on some of your responses was all. My apologies. Great advice. Didn't listen to it my first year on the forum here...too stubborn. Definitely grew from experience. Like a new born baby, the more I learn, the more I realize I need to learn.

HUGE competition there, facing a few giants.....including myself.

Better to do 2 satellites than 1 as you can try a couple different strategies and increase your chances 2-fold of going to the big dance in Vegas, 2009. Then again, I might put your 5x5 win streak in jeopardy. :D

Ill think about it, people are gonna have to start treating me much nicer if they are going to take my money.

Seriously, I need help with the technology. Where do we manage the teams? How is the functionality? etc etc

ok, on NFBC homepage. Click "sign in". Takes you to a page that shows links to your team(s).

Go to My Settings - scroll down to draft preferences - choose which draft slots you like.

I honestly wish it was setup more like Yahoo. I like the stat-tracker better than their live stats. Easier to compare teams day to day - in this one you can only compare yourself to 1 other team and it takes too much time to load. Also, loads pitching stats first, then you have to wait another 10 seconds to finally load offense categories. Not sure why this is but it's kind of frustrating.

$1,000 to bid on free agents.

Best thing to do is to go on NFBC main page and lookup all the rules. That pretty much clears up everything.

This system is definitely a different animal than our Yahoo private leagues, I wouldn't necessarily say it's any tougher, it's just different. You have to think differently here. As far as closers are concerned, e.r.a., whip, K's are no longer so important because their numbers don't impact the overall stats as much except saves. Better to build solid pitching staff and get high save guys ie Todd Jones/Cordero kind of guys.

You want 7 starting pitchers with 2 closers, with maybe a third, or atleast a backup closer with potential to close later on. Accardo, Riske and so on.

Outfielders of course go very quickly in these drafts as they should.

Don't leave the draft with too many holes. After 450 players are selected, there's not a whole lot left to fix anything. So you're kind of stuck for a little while until the season progresses.

Also, definitely study the minors a bit. You definitely want to take atleast one minor leaguer, but it's best just to know about who's who as there will be call-ups during the year that you'll need to know about. I didn't do any minor league prep last year as it was never important before.

I definitely think you can be a top 5 guy in any league you play, but being on this forum is a good start. It literally took a whole year for me to change my approach from my "normal" thinking. There are definitely a few guys on this forum that I really pay attention to. I don't always agree with what I hear, but I take what I need and use it.

You've got to get into the March 26th sat. There are only 3 spots left. My guess is it's filled in less than 2 days. Get in! I think it would be fun to have me, you and Roids in the same league vying for $1,300 entry into Vegas.

Great!

So... does anyone else need a Mock analysed???

Two things on yours, Ocho:

Guy who won my satellite last year hit a mad hot streak with SPs he grabbed in the 20-25 rounds: Maine, OPerez, Francis, etc. It looks like you went that route for the most part here and have potential for similar results.

Also, take heed of what was said re many of those quality pitchers going earlier in the Main Event. Moose in the 29th? Good lawdy....
