I am not in love with the draft. But I have not yet seen who else was available at the picks I do not like. I dont like:
Soto in 10th
Towles in 14th
thats 2 catchers with nothing proven. Remember Ianetta
Baldelli in 15th
No 5th OF
Only 3 starters
only one closer if CJ is not the one

Certainly good upside....but
1) you might only have four OF starting in April if Rasmus starts in the minors and Baldelli isn't good to go
2) you are light on HR
3) I like the SP (although I doubt Germano or Volquez last more than a week on your roster), but
4) you are light on saves - certainly there will be some available during the season, but the guy who takes over the team better be good on the wire.
You made some really good picks GG, but certainly not a team you would be happy with coming out of the main event in March

I think you could have "hedged" the Baldelli pick with a Mark Prior and Rich Harden...maybe even a side cup of Randy Johnson or Pedro Martinez.
That way...if any of those 5 play a full season to their potential...you'd strike gold!!!

there's now way your taking the majority of these players in March. If so, you better hope you have 10 Brandon's falling in your lap. Middle of the pack, if that, IMO.
Let me know when the Mag2 Lg Champion posts their roster.

as for my OF, cleraly you haven't done your prep yet.
only 3 starters, again, you haven't prepped yet.
CJ is the one.
i guess i can't expect others to see the masterpiece i have created in my own image (just like last year).

~Lance absolutely! looking to strike gold here. my guess is that baldelli, harden, and prior's adp in march will be lower than where i took them last night. these picks will be considered "value" picks in march.

thanks for the good picks bump. i must caution you, some of the players i selected will be selected multiple rounds earlier in march drafts, in some cases 4-5 rounds earlier. watch and see.

Tonight's draft was a good chance to try some new things. As a result, I don't have the same "enthusiasm" that Gekko has for his squad.
Here's how it shook out for me from the 4 hole:
1. David Wright 3b
2. Russell Martin c
3. Troy Tulowitzki ss
4. Brandon Webb sp
5. Chris B Young of
6. Adrian Beltre 3b
7. Delmon Young of
8. James Shields sp
9. Trevor Hoffman rp
10. Matt Capps rp
11. Jeremy Hermida of
12. Chien-Ming Wang sp
13. Kevin Youkilis 1b
14. Stephen Drew ss
15. Ramon Hernandez c
16. Luis Castillo 2b
17. Nate McLouth of
18. Andy Sonnanstine sp
19. Ian Kennedy sp
20. Mike Jacobs 1b
21. Jon Lester sp
22. Adam Jones of
23. Micah Owings sp
24. Kerry Wood rp
25. Matt Murton of
26. Johnny Cueto sp
27. Jose Lopez 2b
28. Manny Parra sp
29. Steven Pearce of
30. Bartolo Colon sp
I was really hoping for either Hanley or Reyes with the 4th pick, but both got snapped up before I was up. Time to adjust the old KDS!
I also thought there would be a big shortstop run (like last year), so ended up with Tulo in the 3rd. In retrospect, I'd say the correct play for SS this year is to get one of the big 3 in the 1st round (Rollins the other one), otherwise wait until the 10th or later to get your guy -- the SS you grab in rounds 3 through 8 is very likely to disappoint.
Gekko touched on the catchers. Never my style to take a catcher early, so I thought I'd give it a shot here. The 3rd and 4th tier catchers went much later than expected (Molina, Varitek and Hernandez all went in the 15th), so Martin in the 2nd was a mistake. Another lesson learned for the Main Event.
Pitchers are too much of a crapshoot right now. In a draft like this, the best deal is to take a bunch of them and hope that something sticks. We're going to know a LOT more in two or three weeks. As the saying goes, keep your ears on the tracks.
Thanks to everyone for a fun evening.

Here is my team I wasn't totally thrilled with it, but I do think the team can compete for a top 3 finish. I was shocked Johann was there for 2.7 it screwed up my entire draft as I had to change a lot and ended up chasing speed all night long.
I didn't like Picking Lowell in the 9th, looking back it was a mistake considering I was able to get Edwin in the 10th.
I had my head in a buckett when I picked Corey Patterson in the 14th, again was chasing speed and it was a stupid pick I knew it when I clicked the button.
Also took Kevin Gregg way to early going in I thought I could get a closer in the 13th and it seemed like after I took him no one took another closer until the 13th so I was right and lesson learned there for later drafts. Great Draft everyone!!

Overall, I had fun. Too many people picked my pockets last night to mention any names. At least a dozen players went two or three rounds ahead of where I thought they would, so success last night was measured by me in the ability to counter punch. I like my SP and have good speed, but am going to be short in power/RBI unless several guys finally play full years and live up to potential. Drafted out of the the 12 hole which I was ok with.
Round Player Pos Team
R1 P12 Crawford, Carl OF TB No issues - SB anchor
R2 P4 Beltran, Carlos OF NYM Many choices here, but I thought I would get a crack at Sizemore, Tex, or Phillips
R3 P12 Atkins, Garrett 3B COL Had three other picks I wanted here, but they went at the turn
R4 P4 Guillen, Carlos SS, 1B DET Planned.
R5 P12 Haren, Dan SP ARI Solid Anchor
R6 P4 Cordero, Francisco RP CIN Solid
R7 P12 Damon, Johnny OF NYY Had my eye on 4 OF for this spot. Damon wasn't one.
R8 P4 Matsuzaka, Daisuke SP BOS Great #2.

R10 P4 Cordero, Chad RP WAS Not happy here, but another solid closer. Should have waited for my #2.
R11 P12 Perez, Oliver SP NYM Gives me 3 SP with 200 K potential. Not going to help WHIP.
R12 P4 Blalock, Hank 3B TEX Hoped to get him later, but most of my tarketed mid rounders gone.
R13 P12 Hudson, Orlando 2B ARI Planned to get a 2B here. He was my third choice.
R14 P4 Arroyo, Bronson SP CIN Mid rotation solid choice (I hope)
R15 P12 Cameron, Mike OF MIL I like this pick here. I really do.
R16 P4 Greinke, Zach SP KC Up and comer

R21 P12 Capuano, Chris SP MIL Gamble
R22 P4 DeJesus, David OF KC Nice pick here, I think. Solid Utility or BU OF.
R23 P12 Estrada, Johnny C NYM What was I drinking? Gamble.
R24 P4 Broussard, Ben 1B, OF TEX Gamble with upside.
R25 P12 Bonser, Boof SP MIN Want to watch him.
R26 P4 Looper, Braden SP STL Situational fill-in

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Drafted from the #6 Hole, Thoughts, Comments, great draft everyone. Duke,
Thought you had picked my pocket on Hawpe, but there were 7 OF in 9 picks from the 4-hole to the 12-hole of Round Seven, so he probably would not have made it to me anyway.
I thought the Lackey pick was interesting with the other pitchers still on the board. Not that he is bad. Far from it, but I had him ranked a few rounds later. C'est la vie.
Proof you can get two closers after the first ten rounds. Lesson learned by me.
In general, I thought your six middle and corner men might hold you down, but only time will tell.
Enjoyed it!

Soria, Joakim
Gregg, Kevin
Isringhausen, Jason
Marmol, Carlos
Borowski, Joe
Gagne, Eric
Jones, Todd
Pena, Tony
Percival, Troy
Accardo, Jeremy
Wilson, C.J.
Ryan, B.J.
Wilson, Brian
They are the riskier options, but options none the less.

By the way, Glenn, I think you ended up with a pretty darn good team. Your outfielders are young (well, besides Chris B and Delmon
) but have some great upside.
Here's hoping you finish second!

I drafted out of the 13th spot. In the first round I took Soriano and with the eighteenth pick I took Sizemore. I followed that with D.Lee and then Mauer as I thought that my first two where weakest in BA.
In the fifth round I found CC still on the board and five picks later I added Harang. In the seventh Chris Young the SD SP was still on the board so I went with a third SP. This was my plan as I had all three in my top 15 SP and think that when you need to throw 9 pitchers each week you need three every week Aces.
In the Eighth I went with Valverde, which left my hitting in sorry shape. I was willing to go with a RP if one of top 15 SP was not there in the seventh, besides none of the hitter really stood out (to me) at this point. I felt that at this point my team projected SB (40% of Target), HR (38%), Runs (35%), BA (34%), and weakest in RBI (31%). Those numbers after 4 of 14 hitters aren’t too bad when you consider I have already rostered a Catcher. In the ninth, Loney was still on the table and the two players between my picks had both taken a 1B in the second round (Prince & Teixeria) along with the 15th team having added Korenko. So I tried to grab RBI’s from a middle infielder K. Greene and cover his awful BA by getting Loney on the way back. Loney didn’t make it back to me so I went with Kelly Johnson. At this point I was weak in BA and RBI’s so I came back with Ibanez and Cuddyer which helped out in the RBI but still left me short in BA. Pudge as my second Catcher helped with BA.
I also grabbed Gagne as my second Closer as he and Todd Jones were the only sure season starting closers left. Not to say that either will hold the job.
My plan was to get 8 SP (3 aces, 3 upside, 2 rotation guys), 3 closer (Ace, Middle of the road, solid shot).
SP - Sabathia, Harang, C Young, Garza, Schmidt, An Reyes, Zack Duke, & Duschscherer
RP – Valverde, Gagne, Jamie Walker
I would give my Pitching a B, as it worked pretty much to plan.
C- Mauer & Pudge
1B - D.Lee & Conner Jackson
2B – Johnson & A. Casilla (SB sleeper)
SS – K Greene & F. Lopez
3B – Chavez & Blake
OF/DH – Soriano, Sizemore, Ibanez, Cuddyer, Kubel, Teehan
OF Bench – Gutierrez & Gomes
Prospect – Ian Stewart
BA looks awful (275-280) OK Power (250+/-) Average Speed. Overall D.
Glad I have 50 days to work on it.

Drafted this team out of the #14 spot. Was planning on starting with speed but then PRINCE was on the table and I couldn't pass him up.
At this spot, you have to be aware of position scarcity to a greater extent because being on the corner it will be a long time before you pick again. I decided to lock down the middle in rounds 3 & 4. Some will consider FURCAL a reach, but no way he comes back.
Thought I was about to steal CC Sabathia in round #5, but just missed him. Roy Oswalt made me happy in round #6 and Matt Cain in round #9 was a pleasant surprise.
3B became a problem. The guys I targeted went earlier than expected, thanks KOQ.
Every year at this time it happens to me. During a MOCK draft I take a CATCHER earlier than need be. Part of me thinks I do this on purpose as a reminder of how DUMB it really is to do. Johjima
at #8 was bad. Please learn the errors of my ways.
I took Bonderman at #12 after I had gotten Auto-kicked in the balls when Jason put his draft on Autp-Pick and the dang computer grabbed two guys I had interest in.
I think the team grades out at C+. I need to do some howework for the endgame. It was great fun and a learning experience. I had a blast. Thanks to Greg, Tom, MDC, and all of the other participants. Even you James Christie - you Deeck!

Thanks, I think
See my previous notes -- drafting catchers and middle infielders in the early rounds is IMO a recipe for disaster. Joe Mauer and Bill Hall anyone? Sure, it can work out if you nail the picks, but a much riskier proposition.
Your pitching blows mine away -- I waited too long for my 4th, 5th and 6th starters and probably my 3rd as well. Dice K in the 8th was particularly sweet for you.

didn't expect to get Pujols @ 7 my how the mighty have fallen...1 thing I took from this is that the oF position seems pretty weak and the later rounds arent as prime for sleepers as it used to be....overall feel its a solid team and should compete..I know people are all down on Pierre but fact of the matter is 60 steals 50+ steals is 50+ steal sno matter how you slice it and he was a guy that for the last 4 years or so has gone in the top 3 rounds so in rd 7 I'll take him..
good job guys was a very tough bunch to draft with..
