People love to add a little value to players in "contract years"

BUT...when a deal is done to extend the contract of these same players before the season begins...do you actually re-evaluate, and remove a bit of luster from these same players?

Lance, I think there's a beer in the back of the fridge!

Ok, while Lance is away are there any other questions? :D

What do you think of these players this year.

Hafner

Weeks

Pena KDS - yes i will use it. i need to see the remaining ADP from the satellite leagues before i decide. being at let's say #7 and being forced to take either poodles or santana is a good thing in my book.

Hafner - i see a buy low candidate with potential to return ortiz-lite type numbers. the only negative is locking up your DH spot, but that can be planned around with good management.

Weeks - going by the early satellite results, he will likely be gone before i'd consider him. esp in the early rounds i am risk averse. From May through August he hit a total of 2 hrs in 218 AB. and then magically in sept he hits 9? most owners drafting him early believe he's finally turned the corner. i believed that with teahan, a.reyes, s.drew last year.

Pena - he's always had the power and he showed good skill growth last year. what really impressed me was his growth in the 2nd half of last season. i think he's nice value in the 4th round. think poor man's Howard or Fielder than you can get 2-3 rounds later

~Lance in general, i'll likely consider rookies toward the end of the draft. too much talent in the middle rounds to waste on rookies. although this year is an exception with Buchholz

i don't think Ramon Hernandez is getting a lot of love this year, but he's still got a nice bat.

gg- didn't you post after your main draft last year that you missed on all of your 1st 4 targeted picks? wasn't one of them bill hall? have you changed your mind on position scarcity- or did you like hall for other reasons? didn't your you tube say albert and didn't you change to hanly? now are you reversing it and saying hanleys shoulder again bothers you more? was it the real gordon gecko that said " good decision makers make decisions quickly and change them slowly and poor ones do the opposite".? just sayin'

GG-

Enjoy the snow. Since I moved to CA, it is a rarity that I miss. Lobbing snowballs at your two year-old is priceless.

On to baseball:

Thoughts on these OFers--which would you prefer to have and why or why not?

Ho much of an impact do you give to how players do in Spring Training in regard to your rankings?

~Lance 1. i change my cheatsheet EVERY day. every day i conduct some research and i FIND information that i was previously unaware of.

2. of course my cheatsheet will change. there's no fun in being a robot or being "locked in " by March 1st. for example, if i see maybin making good contact, i'll bump up his numbers a bit.

I can't sit in the corner!

That's what happens when these guys always plan chats right when my morning coffee is at its peak!!!!!!!!!! Bzzzzzzzzzzzzz! :D

Looking at Dice-K's 1st and 2nd half splits...

Who do you think learned more in the offseason...DiceK, or MLB batters? (ie...better/same/worse year in store for 2008)

as for the magazine draft, i did take HRAM over poodles. i think it was only a few days after the poodles news broke. sometimes the tidbits of news that we receive are precursors to a bigger announcement that the player is going on the DL or will be sidelined for a while. with only a few days in between the poodles news and the draft, i decided to go with HRAM. with it being a free draft, either pick would have been okay with me

Gordon- Who plays more games this year Pujols or Soriano?

Kemp Delmon Young - like him, but the hype monster will get him on draft day.

Johnny Damon - like a LOT this year, esp with his adp!! 9th round? you have to be kidding me!!??!!

Kemp - gotta see how the PT shakes out this spring. still kinda uproven in the majors, but he has a nice skill set to build upon.

~Lance (Just ignore my questions for if you run out...I don't mind) ya, dice was pretty brutal in the 2nd half. what concerned me most was his walk rate the last two months. it's gonna take a leap of faith for some owners to be able to pluck him come march.

i think he improves, but i really don't have anything to support that statement other than Ron Shandler and Paul White said so! :D :D

I notice that a lot of NFL/NBA teams like to tade away early draft slots. I think some teams are afraid of the exposure to failure. Do you think this comes into play in NFBC?

i can say for a FACT that come draft day some owners are going to select a player over another player simply because they can't pronounce the other player's name and don't want to look like a fool. someone mispronounced F.Pie and the who room erupted in laughter.

others will be "forced" into selecting the adp player instead of the player they want.

yes, FEAR is definately alive in the NFBC. AND I LOVE IT!!! muuuhahahahaha!!!!

[/QUOTE]Unless someone who really knew what they were doing AND got VERY lucky, I agree with GG on this. Shandler's frame of reference is individual leagues where you can do this - but when you have to matchpoint your K's and W's against the entire field, you are going to be hard pressed to ever catch up.

Having never done it...(but may do some drunken videos someday! :D :D ;) )

How easy/hard is it to capture video, edit video, and upload it to YouTube?

Are you happy with the HD camera you bought, and would you recommend it?

Of course it can be done. Bedard & Shields were just 2 P's who could have been picked 8th or after in constructing a starting squad.
