Is Carlos Pena the next David Ortiz?

Ortiz played very poorly in the first half of his career and then something just clicked when he arrived in Boston. Could it be that the same thing happened to Carlos Pena?

Ditto
OK - So I'm not as good as I thought I was; but at least I am consistent.

Ortiz for Twins 2001 AVG. .234 HR 18 RBI 48 Runs 46 AB 303 OBP .324

Pena for Tigers 2005 AVG. .235 HR 18 RBI 37 Runs 37 AB 260 OBP .325

I think these numbers are similar.

Ortiz for Red Sox 2003 AVG. .288 HR 37 RBI 101 Runs 79 AB 448 OBP .369

Pena for Rays 2007 AVG. .282 HR 46 RBI 121 Runs 99 AB 490 OBP .411

You guys may be a believer after 2008. I am just not sure why you guys think they are not similar.

Ortiz, 2003 - Swung at and missed the ball 22% of the time.

Pena, 2007 - Swung at and missed the ball 31% of the time.

A regression for Pena in 2008 seems more likely than it did for a regression for Ortiz in 2004.

Where do you get the percentage of swing and miss information? Pena did have a much better OBP with .411 compared to Ortiz at .369

If you are fooled by a pitch...wouldn't you rather miss it completely, and have another crack at the next one...than just nick it, and hit a dribbler to the pitcher?
