In the LV Ultimate Auction, I got extremely rich in Pitching and ended up with the following pitching staff:
Bedard
Lackey
Beckett
Smoltz
Lincecum
Cain
Nathan
Rivera
Soria
As you might imagine, this was at the expense of offense that looks like this:
C Posada
C Johjima
1B Kotchman
2B A. Hill
SS Y. Betancourt
3B E. Encarnacion
OF H. Matsui
OF Milledge
OF Fukudome
OF Rowand
OF Maybin
CI Saltalamacchia
MI Polanco
U Rasmus
Bench:
Wilkerson
Dinorfia
Capuano
Howry
Baldelli
Dobbs
Schierholz
My question is obvious - did I get enough offense to go with the 60+ points that my pitching staff is likely to achieve? In other words, can this team be competitive?
Is this enough offense?

Absolutely not, in my humble opinion. Bottom half in every offensive category, easily.

I seriously doubt it - not anywhere near enough power OR speed.
What was the final split of your auction dollars - pitching vs hitting? Seems like it was way out of whack.

Captain,
My split was an ungodly 141 for pitching, 119 for hitting. There was a ton of overpaying for hitting early. Once I got in for a penny...well, you know the rest. As the other owners started scrambling for pitching, I got some good bargains on hitters (e.g., Fukudome for $6).
As I see it, my batting average should be worth 8 to 10 points and runs should be 6 or 7. After that, it purely depends on whether the young OFs (Milledge, Maybin, and Rasmus) are solid. I absolutely agree that SBs are a lost category.

if you release 85% of your offense, you might be able to do it...

Marv,
I did my first auction and a similar thing happened and I got a great offense and a terrible pitching staff. I should have reacted better and done better.
With that said I will take my pitching over your hitting any day of the week. At least I have Verlander and Krod....
Get to work on fixing that offense.

I don't believe that is enough offense. I am not against taking pitching early, but I think you just took it too far. But, I guess you know where to use your free agent money!
