Seeing how you are the expert...Can you please list the second baseman who could possibly hit 20+ homeruns and 30+ steals that got drafted after Weeks?
When I was doing my homework, I didn't see many. I love to see your list in case I might have missed someone.

It's March.
No hitter hits under .270 or has less than 20 home runs.
No starter has less than a 4.00 ERA and 14 wins.
Especially if they're on your team. All part of March Madness.

Richie Sexson does!! Even his owners have their fingers crossed for anything north of 245.

When I was doing my homework, I didn't see many. I love to see your list in case I might have missed someone. Shawn, I know you are high on Weeks, and he clearly has incredible potential. I just think a lot of hype has resulted in Weeks climbing up to the 5th round. It's just too high for a guy who has disappointed 3 years running. I realize in order to pick a breakout you gotta jump to get him, I just personally feel it's too risky.
As far as their not being too many 20 homerun/30 stolen base guys after Weeks, that is true.
I do think Mike Cameron in the 16th round will end up bringing comparable value if not better. We'll see. Kind of a bold statement but Cameron in Milwaukee hitting in a much nicer park than before, better lineup, and sometimes a change of scenery with money incentive is a good thing. Even with the suspension, I see Cameron with .260-25-85-85 runs - 20+ stolen bases. Will Rickie Weeks surpass that? I'm not so sure.
5th round too early. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong.
The season will tell us.

As Crazy as its sound's Crazy makes perfect sense.Their are plenty of lock players at other positions in the fifth round.Take the guys that have done it.Francouer,Hawpe,Harang,Mauer,Hunter,Zimmerman and many others. These are some guys that followed Weeks IN the Super.
The question is when should the gamble be taken on Weeks.I would say in the seventh round where he did go in some drafts.
I just happen to agree with Crazy.

The season will tell us.
First, I would never draft Cameron.
Second, If you are going to compare the two, who are you playing at second? And who am I playing in the outfield? Are drafting Hill? He looks good this year. How many steals is going to have? Hill and Cameron with have 45 homeruns/20 steals and a .275 batting average combined. I'd beat you all day long with Melky Cabrera and Weeks....You can take that to the bank.
When I get to the 16th round, I'm sure not chasing a low average outfielder. I'll take the hit with Weeks because I plan for it.
The best second baseman after Weeks is Kendrick. I think he will move up in the order this year. I just wasn't sold on his homeruns or steals. If I had Reyes, I could have settled for less steals at second.

I just happen to agree with Crazy. All are solid players, but how many of these guys can put up a combined 50 HR+SB and play the middle infield. Weeks upside is $20+ in value, a 2nd-3rd rounder, i.e., Brian Roberts, Texeira, Berkman.

Totally unfair to Chipper to call Weeks a chipper. Chipper has way more at bats over the last three years, even being the older of the two, and the term seems to indicate that the player is actually GOOD when healthy. Weeks seems to be good more at his whim than whenever he plays. Has to be the only player taken in the first ten rounds that has hit under .240 in two of the last three years. And that's outside of the health issues. Really amazing to me that people are still willing to count on him.
Seems like doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. No reason to think Weeks will hit anywhere near 240 this season. In his first season he hit 239 as a 22 yr-old callup which included a meager 211 on the road. At home he hit 270.
The next season he hit 279 before breaking his hand/wrist (I forget which). Last yr, not fully recovered, as is typical, he was horrible early on batting 232 through July. He rebounded to hit 273 from Aug-Sep. I have him at 270 this year, don't think its a stretch.
What was his average on Thursdays in which he ate a meatball sandwich for lunch?
I do agree that it's not a stretch but that doesn't mean it will happen.

B)You hate catchers.
C)Please list all your middle infielder from the main and super. I have an over/under of 35 steals for all players combines from each league.

Total agreement on your assessment of Weeks. Hasnt scratched the surface of his potential yes (agreed he MUST stay healthy). OBTW, Rickie "Week" Wrist went two for four today with a 3 run bomb

Alexei Ramirez
Before you start arguing, you said 'who could possibly'. Assuming that Weeks will be healthy enough to pull it off or have a passable batting average while doing it are perhaps bigger gambles than betting on the performance of these later picks.

I sure I want to build my team around a 27th round reserve pick who doesn't have a job, but he could hit 20 homeruns and has stole 38 bases in 67 attempts.
As for Kelly Johnson, are going into the draft hoping he turns his 9 steals in 30 this year. You want to talk about over projections. I think last year he wasn't even playing everyday after the all-star break.

Actually, take Soriano completely out of the eqution.
Patterson and Weeks are very similar with their skills. Both are always overdrafted and both never fail to disappoint. They are both players who should be better. It was only this year where I saw less posts about Carl Crawford offering more power. Players have finally realized that Crawford is what he is, maybe Weeks and Patterson are too.

Corey Patterson or Alfonzo Soriano. I would guess that Weeks ends up closer to Patterson's stats. If Patterson gets 500 ABs, I'd say Patterson. ... and he'd go in the 5th round too if he was locked into the leadoff spot and played 2b.
While we're doing comps --- Who hits for a higher BA, 5th-rd pick R Weeks or 4th-rd pick Chris Young. I'll take Weeks.
I would take Young.
Loser pays for a WTA satellite next season?
Only if each get over a specified number of at bats. I don't want to see Weeks go 1-3 and break his wrist again.

On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

What that Crawford is the best athlete in baseball? Your kidding me if you think he won't hit 20+ homeruns for many years. He just 26 reaching his prime. He is 6'2" 220 pounds. He will hit 30+ when he learns to pull the ball.
