Shawn, I don't want to build my roster around those guys. Please read the part of my post that noted your word 'possibly.'
The nice thing about 27th rounders is that you don't have to build your roster around them. A 5th rounder you sort of do. And that is an area where I don't want to take a guy where you say, "Meh, maybe he will or maybe he won't." 27th round is fine for that. If he doesn't do it, you still just get what you paid for.

Patterson and Weeks are very similar with their skills. Both are always overdrafted and both never fail to disappoint. They are both players who should be better. It was only this year where I saw less posts about Carl Crawford offering more power. Players have finally realized that Crawford is what he is, maybe Weeks and Patterson are too. What that Crawford is the best athlete in baseball? Your kidding me if you think he won't hit 20+ homeruns for many years. He just 26 reaching his prime. He is 6'2" 220 pounds. He will hit 30+ when he learns to pull the ball.
Great athlete, but he is what he is. No I don't foresee him hitting 30.

Seeing how you are the expert...Can you please list the second baseman who could possibly hit 20+ homeruns and 30+ steals that got drafted after Weeks?
When I was doing my homework, I didn't see many. I love to see your list in case I might have missed someone. Kelly Johnson
Alexei Ramirez
Before you start arguing, you said 'who could possibly'. Assuming that Weeks will be healthy enough to pull it off or have a passable batting average while doing it are perhaps bigger gambles than betting on the performance of these later picks.
Oh now here's a sidebet, I'll say Weeks hits 270 with a combined 50 HR+SB versus Kelly Johnson stealing 30 bases. If neither or both reach these numbers its a push. Any amount.
I think you are missing my point. I would say that Johnson is a virtual lock to hit over .260 and get 30 stomers. I don't think you can say that about Weeks. Isn't it Eddie who is always saying 'show me twice'. I would like Weeks to show me just once before I am grabbing him in the first ten rounds. I have been waiting three years for him to show me; I'm not going to gamble that the magic number is four.
Eddie's a show me twice guy. I am not. I bet on the come all the time.

So does he evolve to Soriano? Where the hr's become more prevalent than the stolen bases? Will that improve or drop his stature? When he starts hitting for more power is when he starts running less and has a lower average. I'll take Crawford as is.

He is a solid .300 hitter now. When his career is done, he will rank higher than Soriano.

I don't EVER see crawford as a 30 homerun hitter. maybe 20-22 at his peak, but his role isn't to hit homers.
didn't crawford have a wrist injury a few years ago and then re-injured it last year. maybe that is zapping his power.
as for weeks, if he stikes out at his career rate, he'll never make it over .260 (given 500AB), unless he has a good bit of BABIP luck. given his k rate the end of last season and this spring, why would anyone project him to hit over .260 or even .250???

Corey Patterson or Alfonzo Soriano. I would guess that Weeks ends up closer to Patterson's stats. If Patterson gets 500 ABs, I'd say Patterson. ... and he'd go in the 5th round too if he was locked into the leadoff spot and played 2b.
While we're doing comps --- Who hits for a higher BA, 5th-rd pick R Weeks or 4th-rd pick Chris Young. I'll take Weeks.
I would take Young.
Loser pays for a WTA satellite next season?
Only if each get over a specified number of at bats. I don't want to see Weeks go 1-3 and break his wrist again.
That makes two of us.
Anywhere in the 400-500 minimum ABs range is ok with me.

Bjoak agree with you on everything, and a Rameriz in the 27th is fine if it doesnt work out.Im not gambling on the foundation of my team [top 10 picks] on a guy with that kind of risk.
He is what he is and i dont want a250 hitter in the 4th round.Shwan i dont have to get 25 steals out of my second baseman , i can my steals anywhere. In the Super i took Bourne for speed, he is also a risk but the 10th round risk and im betting on him to hit 280 with at least 50 steals.I also find it interesting the two biggest Weeks guys are Shwan and KJ Duke who have both risks their seasons on him.
KJ taking Weeks in the 5th round in the main and Shwan taking him in the 4th round in the main and ultimate.Hey we all have are opinions and guys we like and thats what makes it so much fun.
Let the games begin .

Rickie Weeks-2B-Brewers Mar. 23 - 7:54 pm et
Rickie Weeks returned to the lineup on Sunday and went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer to lead the Brewers to a 5-4 win over the Diamondbacks.

Let the games begin . Did OK last season in spite of taking Bill Hall in the 3rd rd, Rolen in the 8th and Overbay in the 9th.
Don't think I'm risking my whole season on Weeks - think you can have a few of these guys.
On another topic, can we count the final week of spring games in the standings.

Ill be happy to stand up and and say, "my name is Jeff and im a Rickie Weeks lover!". I took him in both Super Drafts, at 4-11 and 4-12 and fully expect to be rewarded handsomely. If he gets hurt and he doesnt, for me, its worth the risk. He has way too much upside at a scarce position for me to take a gamble on a guy who still hasnt hit his prime.

"Weeks' hot streak at the end of last season pretty much coincided with the one-year anniversary of his wrist surgery, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Doctors figured it would be about a year before Weeks was fully healthy.
And, yes, he finished strong (nine homers, 10 steals in September)
." TSN
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports Weeks was rehab-free for the first time in three years this past offseason. "I feel I can do more now than in the past," Weeks said. "(Going through physical therapy) wears on you a little bit mentally."
you know sometimes you just have to connect the dots. THESE are the guys you have to take a chance on if you want a top 10% placement. You want safe in the 5th round?? Zimmerman=14rd Kouzmanoff. Victorino=10rd Ellsbury. Pence=9th rd Sheffield... Who's giving me a Weeks 9hr 10sb in a month talent later in the draft ??? NObody.

Judging by Sir Childs defensive nature this post-draft...I'll wager 1 to 1 (crappy odds) that you don't finish top 12 overall this season.
With your awesome Baseball Mafia stuff...and your crazy main league, and just pure odds...I'll wager up to $1,000.00 at even money.
But I still love ya!
