Fun facts to know and bore your friends:

Counting the 30 leagues (26 Main, 2 Ultimate and 2 Super), there has already been a little over 10% of the free agent dollars spent ($45,639 out of a total pool of $450,000). If you have more than $900, you are FAA rich!

A total of 246 players have been purchased at least once. And you thought your draft sheets were thin at the end of your draft(s)!

Eight players have already generated total dollar winning bids of over $1,000 including HOF'ers Cantu, Inge, Hampton, and Gwynn Jr. There have been 95 winning bids over $100 and 46 winning bids of $10 or less.

So far, the player that has sucked out the most money is Mark Lowe, picked up in all 30 leagues in Week 2, and using up $4,127 of FA bucks. The range of winning bids was $36 to $344. He generated 18 bids over $100. Anyone got sticker shock?

The second most bid on one player in total is David Murphy who has been picked up 29 times (3 in WK1 and 26 in WK2). The range of winning bids was $1 (WK1) to $500 (Wk2). He generated nine winning bids over $100. Hmmm...anyone draft him or is he still available in one league?

Just for grins...

Thanks, Wayne, for posting this information. These aren’t just fun facts, they are very important facts if you are competing in the NFBC. Before the draft, the ADP report is really the only market analysis tool. Now that the season has started, the FAAB Adds/Drops Reports are the marketing tool that you need to use. Unfortunately the report comes in a very user-unfriendly format.

Here are some of the flaws:

1. The Main Event is not separated from the rest of the leagues. If you try to analyze all of the adds and drops from every league, you are going to get some very distorted values. Even if they don’t look distorted, they are. Throwing the Main Event leagues in with all of the other leagues is like comparing apples to oranges. Really, it is comparing a watermelon to a bunch of grapes. The satellite and variation leagues often have teams that are using extreme strategies and often they are not taken as seriously as the Main Event. I mean, hey, $100,000 compared to $2000. The satellite and variation leagues are important, but they need to be looked at by themselves. Wayne at least did everyone a favor by separating the Main Event leagues before he started making comments. Now, throw out the Supers and Ultimates to make your data more true. Even they need to be looked at individually rather than against the whole.

2. Geez, when you work with databases and Excel spreadsheets, keep your data consistent. Formats need to stay the same, titles need to be uniform… Shawn Childs League is out of format and creates problems. Then the March 6th $500 league is not uniform. When we get these reports, foul-ups like these make the analysis much harder. They basically kill an Excel analysis for anyone that does not have a high level of experience. Either Stats or Krause needs to work on their data entry skills. These things are also database killers.

Now, one good turn deserves another… Wayne, this Bud’s for you:O)

Just copy and paste the FAAB reports into column A. I’ve got it set up to automatically parse. Spyhunter, take a look at the formulas that I used to parse out the data. The only way you can manipulate this data into a usable format is to use text string functions. I’m still using Excel 2003, so there may be a way to make this easier in the newer version of Excel. I’ll be converting over in a few weeks and if there is an easier way to do it then I will post a new form. Also, in the form I didn’t make the corrections to Shawn Childs League or the March 6th $500 league so that you could see what kind of problems it creates for Excel users.

Now to take Edwards Kings financial analysis a little further:

Most conservative league – Orlando 3, most free-spending league – Las Vegas 7.

Before I leave this subject, I gotta couple of requests for the NFBC. Fix Shawn Childs League to read “NFBC Shawn Childs League.” Correct the “l” in league in the March 6th $500 League. And, can we get position data in the report? It would be nice to just dump the data in a spreadsheet and be able to calculate how much is being spent on pitching and hitting.

Have a great day, all!
