Checks Are In The Mail

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Thu Oct 13, 2005 3:48 am

I know it's an old excuse, but trust me when I say "the checks are in the mail." All 2005 NFBC money winners who sent in their W-9 forms already should start seeing their winning checks in the mail any day now. Look for envelopes marked F&W Publications as all of the payments were sent from our corporate office in Cincinnati.

My goal was to get the checks sent out last Thursday, but there was a couple days of delay between Iola and Cincinnati. Checks were being sent out Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, so look for them soon. And don't spend all of that money in one spot (yeah, save some for next year's NFBC entries)! ;)

If you won money and haven't filled out a W-9 yet, please send it back or fax it to us at 715-445-4087. We'll get your check sent out immediately after we get that. If you need a W-9, e-mail Tom at [email protected].

Thanks everyone and look for the checks. I promise, they are in the mail!

Greg,

I am curious. For teams that list a second manager: are checks cut for both managers or just one? Do teams have that option?

It doesn't affect me, yet I am still curious to know.

It doesn't affect me, yet I am still curious to know. Not an option. The rules clearly state that we pay the principal owner and any shares with co-managers must be done individually. The principal owner receives the check and claims the revenue for tax purposes.

Now we need to get this to affect you next year! :D

Greg,

I sent the W-9 thing in but still haven't received a check and I live in Ohio. Should I be concerned about lost in the mail or was there another delay? No hurry but my mail lady is a bit unreliable and I was wondering if the delay was on your end or maybe I should be watching my neighbors to see if any of them buys a new car or boat.

Well, they wouldn't arrive on a Sunday, I know that! As I said in my e-mail this week to everyone, the checks were mailed out of our corporate office in Cincinnati on Tuesday and Wednesday, and for whatever reason a few didn't leave until Thursday. Not sure why some left on Thursday, but I believe we had over 90 checks mailed out this week. All are in F&W Publications envelopes. I promise, I'm not keeping the money! ;)

I'd love to hear when you get them and then tell me what your wife spent with the winnings! :D I'll see all you winners in 2006.

Ken, I wouldn't trust the mail lady, that's for sure! :D These are being sent from Cincinnati, so you should have your money spent by now. Please update me tomorrow when you receive it because they definitely were sent out last week.

We got our check today. Took it down to the Credit Union to deposit it. I was met with an "Oh my!" when the cashier looked at the check. She said that their policy is to put every check for more than 10,000 bucks on "hold" for 10 days to make sure its good. Before looking at the creator of the check she asked me if it was some kind of credit card advancement, thinking it was none of her business, I told her, "No". Then she looks at Krause Publications as the creator and says, "Don't they have something to do with the National Enquirer?" I told her in what I thought was my best sarcastic tone "Yeah, I sent in a picture of Bigfoot." But she was an older lady and I don't think she caught the sarcasm.

So this is definetely a case of 'Be careful what you wish for', not only do we not get access to our money for 10 business days(gotta love small towns), we're not known for finishing well in a National Fantasy baseball competition but for getting Bigfoot on film.

Doughboys, the delay is not with your bank, it is a government regulation. Every bank in the country does the same thing for checks above a particular dollar amount and they will ask what the source of funds is. That's life....
