nydownunder,

Is that right or is that a misprint that some took Sheets at 9?

Rook,

I like the way you think. I have a funny feeling you will finish higher than at least three quarters of the competition in your first year, if you decide to sign up. What do you say? Are you in?

It's the back end of the curve boyz. And the back end of the curve doesn't mean the guys that have finished near last as a they may have to do with bad luck, as too would 'good luck' for those that made it to the middle of the pack (fat part of the curve).

My point being, if you believe you have a good team, would you prefer a (15 team) league of solid players or a league of half solid and half not? IMO (not gospel) I think having better teams in your league makes the league more competitive overall (spreads the wealth of points), thus arguable less chance of someone either running away with it all or feeding on the weak. The more weak in your league, the more chances someone has in making up for their draft mistakes and/or injuries (ie FAAB pickups). That's all I been trying to say.

rook, don't be discouraged by the number crunchers, i was a first time player last year and took second place in my league and finished in the top 20% overall, learned a lot and look forward to this year! sign up, play and have fun that is what it is all about anyway. don't be offended by the boards they are just smack talking, part of the fun

Rook, come on in! The water is fine!

And don't get too worried about the message boards. Sometimes those that need a life (not mentioning any names!) come across a little hard, but everyone I have met from Greg and Tom on down (up?) have been great. And if you want to see some real message board action, wait until you meet Gekko! Another nice guy who sometimes says thing to get everyone fired up.

I will add my two cents on the unprepared owners. I agree that you pay your money and you pretty much get to play it any way you want within the rules. But from the other side, we have all been in "local" leagues where usually about half of the guys are prepared and the other half are there for the beer. Like me, I think a lot of the members of this select fraternity enjoy going head to head with other serious players from all over the country. The emphasis is on serious. It truly adds to my enjoyment when the rest of the owners are as prepared as time and situation allow. It makes you feel the competition is at it's best and when you win, you really feel you are at the top of your game, at least for that year.

And as soon as I win one, I will let you know how it feels unless you beat me to it! :D

Anyway, that might be another perspective on why unprepared owners get roasted on the boards. As to drafting players out of proper position, well, I am still wearing my dunce cap from the draft last March so I will refrain from comment (I drafted Casey higher than anyone else)! I guess it is proof that you can consider yourself prepared but still be stupid.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

After all, in'04 he hit more HR's than he ever had (24), and more than 1/2 were on the road. You had to figure with that ballpark, real signs of a power spike, and a pretty good bet at a .310+ BA, it would be the right year to have him. Who knew he'd get all his hits in '05 with the bases empty and loose all his power?

Bjoak,

I didn't even know that was you. How strange is that considering the participants in this thread.
