Maddux is announcing his retirement Monday. What a career and what a class act.

For selfish reasons, I'd like to see Glavine and Smoltz retire also. It'd be cool to see them all go into the Hall together.

Baseball will probably need that grouping after the Clemens, Bonds, and Sosa threesome the year before.

I remember drafting both Maddux and Mussina in 1992. It was a good year for all 3 of us. Of course, two are heading to the Hall of Fame, the other is just getting friggin' old

Excellent post!

Besides being my favorite pitcher, who I end up drafting nearly every year here, I've always felt Maddux, as good as he was overall, was one of the most underestimated pitchers of all time.

I have no idea now who my 5th starter will be

Big Maddux fan. I like him going out, if not on top, at least still producing unlike some other great pitchers who hang on with nothing left. Since getting his full time gig in 1987, only pitched in less than 30 games twice (1994 and 1995) and even then threw more than 200 innings. Amazing pitcher. Still one of the league leaders in games started over the last five years.

If you put together a dream staff of the last 20 years, Maddux would have to be on it.

He is my favorite pitcher of all-time as well. The biggest reason he doesn't get so much attention is one, he doesn't pitch very hard, the other is he looks like an ordinary, everyday guy. He just goes about his business, throws that 89 mph fastball that moves like no other to any spot in which he desires.

He is in my opinion the greatest pitcher covering the last 40 years. 355 wins, 4 Cy Youngs, 18 gold gloves, 17 consecutive years with atleast 15 wins.

He just has so much respect for the game. I'm gonna miss him.
