I'm a geek.

I should start a Geeks Anonymous. Appropriate that that would be GA, the initials of a person enabling geekdom around the U.S.

Being involved with fantasy baseball, the geek word has been a constant. People in our everyday life get a glazed look in their eyes when explaining what babip means and how it pertains to a hometown favorite player.

Even the local sportsfan, who can name the roster of a team five years ago, gets bored when explaining that the Ace of their staff is getting lit up because his gb/fb ratio is off kilter.

Yeah, I'm a geek, and most likely if you're reading this, you're a geek too.

So, in the name of Jeff Foxworthy, see if any of these hit a little too close to home.

If you think about your upcoming draft more than sex....you're a geek.

If you hear the words- done, main, and holiday and think of Adam, John, and Matt, ...you're a geek.

If you're posting on this board, instead of working....you're a geek.

If Greg is on your speed dial higher than your family members....you're a geek.

If you think the "real" Christmas comes in March....you're a geek.

If you constantly miss parts of conversations while playing mental ping pong between Santana and Sabathia....you're a geek.

If you make a work related excuse to your wife about being on the computer only to participate in a Mock Draft....you're a geek.

It's ok, I've been called a lot worse. I do think we can use a new monicker though. As of now, we are lumped in with Star Trek followers and people with IQ's that are north of 150.

We could be called "gamers". But that puts us with the video game crowd. I would rather be with the IQ people.

Funny... :D

I don't think we're definable doughie. You simply can't paint us with one broad stroke. We may all end at the same place but the trip there is as meandering as a rockie mountain stream.

Number huggers, cracker jacks, hustlers, juicers...it takes all kinds. But to call us all geeks, to throw us in the trekkie pile  I take umbrage

OK...I am safe on that one. :D

If you hear the words- done, main, and holiday and think of Adam, John, and Matt, ...you're a geek.

Got me.

If you're posting on this board, instead of working....you're a geek.

Yup...I am here.

If Greg is on your speed dial higher than your family members....you're a geek.

I don't use speed dial. I am an antiquated geek.

If you think the "real" Christmas comes in March....you're a geek.

Do I look forward to the Main Event Draft more than my presents at Christmas (socks, ANOTHER socket set, soap on a rope)...yup...count me in.

If you constantly miss parts of conversations while playing mental ping pong between Santana and Sabathia....you're a geek.

I never draft pitchers that early. Now if you are talking Kazmir versus the other Santana...you got me.

If you make a work related excuse to your wife about being on the computer only to participate in a Mock Draft....you're a geek.

Been there. Done that. Got the T-shirt.

OK...missed totally on the sex thing, but otherwise...beam me up Scotty!
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.
