Joba

I was looking for the older thread, (where DOUGHBOYS was Yankee-bashing), but I wonder if the re-signing of Pettitte has the Yankee brass thinking of put Joba in the 'pen?

Mo Rivera is coming off shoulder surgery so that would be nice insurance. Not sure he would then warrant the $29 tag that Shandler has put on him, if he were to set-up a chunk of the year.

But in real baseball terms, having Joba set-up or even close early in the year, could mean more W's for the Yanks.

And/or it might make them make him the traditional type 5th starter who gets skipped a lot in April to keep his innings down.

I saw an article two weeks ago on CC Sabathia and he said it will be great to pitch in New York knowing that Joba and Mariano are there to close out the eighth and ninth innings. I didn't see that get picked up anywhere on the fantasy sites, but that struck me that maybe he knows something the rest of us don't. As the eighth inning pitcher in NY, Joba's fantasy value would take an incredible hit. We'll have to see what his role is going to be, I guess.

From the sounds of it, either Joba or Hughes will open in the rotation. Given how bad Hughes was last year, I think Joba is the early favorite. But it's possible the two of them flip-flop in and out of the rotation during the season.

If the Yankees sign Cruz and put Joba in the bullpen, they will have made a lot of good moves.

And when the Yankees make good moves the rest of the league had better watch out.

Well wait, they are the Yankees...anyway, I hope they don't look at it that way. Looking at Joba and Hughes and comparing would be lame for the Yankees. Of course Joba is the better pitcher and in that scenario Joba would be the 5th starter. What the Yankees have to do is look at Joba as a commodity and put him where he will affect and win the most games for the Yankees and that is in the bullpen.

They have a pitcher, where if you needed one out to save your family's life, he would be one that you would think about. Hughes eats the innings and give Joba the important outs.

i see the yanks going through april with cc, aj, wang, and pettitte. lest we forget they have a reliable marte in the pen, also. so, they have spring training and april to figure out between hughes and joba as to who the five man is. in a perfect world, hughes is the fifth starter and is able to get them six good innings per outing and damaso, joba, and mariano are there to finish it off.

Sounds good, but the Yankees only have two off days in April.

Also "reliable" Marte had an ERA over 5 during the second half of last year and a 6.75 ERA road split for the full year.
