Fowler - 1st Impact_Rookie?

According to the Denver Post, Dexter Fowler has a chance to make the Opening Day roster.

"He's still here, so we are looking," said manager Clint Hurdle. "We want to take a very long look."

Fowler has been a spark for the Rockies this spring, establishing himself defensively while hitting at a .318 clip. While we still see him playing everyday at Triple-A Colorado Springs to open the season, it won't be long before he makes an impact in the bigs.

I don't see him being much of an impact unless the Rockies make a trade or someone goes down for an extended period of time. Ian Stewart looks to grab some starts in the OF this year as well. Fowler would be a platoon player at best in my opinion. They seem to be better off sending him to Triple A to get regular playing time.

Unless they send Ian Stewart down or make a sudden trade, I don't see how they plan to get playing time for everyone. It seems rather dumb to have Stewart and Fowler fighting for at bats when they could be playing regularly in Triple A.

It will definately be interesting to see how this plays out.

The worry is with Spilborghs... I love him but maybe he loses a few ab's here and there.. To me it makes more baseball sense to have Fowler get some more time in AAA....

My hope is that Colby Rasmus will be the 2009 impact rookie. Any word on whether he made the roster?

FWIW - a Colorado paper said Fowler will play center against lefties, and when he does Spilborghs moves to left and bumps S. Smith.

A platoon hardly seems ideal, although it is better than being a straight bench player I guess. I think a platoon like this is not good for player development. Regular at bats is always the best solution in my opinion.

Fowler will play everday or he will go back to the minors. He maybe the best defensive center fielder in baseball today. I have him in half of my league's. This may help my Main Event and Ultimate.

Earlier today, Dexter Fowler found out he'd make the team. A few hours later, Fowler found out he wouldn't play at all this season after injuring himself in a freak accident in the shower this morning.

Paramedics had to be called after Fowler slipped on a bar of soap and tore his ACL in the process.

"It's kind of sad that Dex is out for the season, but it had to be the funniest freaking thing I've ever seen," outfielder Ryan Spilborghs said of the incident. Spilborghs, of course, will now be the Rockies' starting center fielder all season.

In other news, the Rockies traded Jeff Baker to the Braves in exchange for a case of Coors Light, and Sal Fasano's mustache challenged Yorvit Torrealba to a duel.

April Fool's, by the way. Except for the part about Fowler making the team -- that part's true.

It appears Rasmus made the team and current wisdom (which will be tomorrows gaff) has it as Duncan getting the lions share as "protection" for Pujols (that is like me needing protection from a box of Krispy Kremes). Looks a lot like the dreaded "platoon" to me. I was hoping Rasmus would get sent down to play every day until (not if) Duncan or Ludwick or Ankiel gets hurt, then they bring him up.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Not so fast. This is a growing year for Colorado with no aspirations (inwardly) of competing for a pennant. Having the same lineup as the day before will not happen. Fowler, Smith, Stewart, Spilborghs, along with Hawpe will all see time in the outfield. Spilborghs, Barmes, Fowler, and Smith will also share time at the top of the order as well as the bottom. Besides Hawpe, and barring injury or streaks, I would be surprised if any outfielder starts more than five games a week, and four would probably be the average.

Gekko and Doughboys...Is Fowler available in the FAAB pool for your Main Event League? If so, how much FAAB will Fowler go for?

how much do guys playing part-time with a lack of hr's go for? :D

seriously, if i was strapped for sb, i could see a $50-$60 bid, however, due to my superior drafting skills  , i am not in need of sb. i ALREADY have the NL ROY rostered on my team, Mr McCutchen. If I need speed in the second half of the season, i expect him to take care of it. in addition, i believe mr bonifucco from florida is available in my league. lots of speed out there if you can tolerate "Judy's"! :D
