Have you ever had 15 starts in a week?

Post by Bullgod » Mon Jun 08, 2009 4:07 pm

I have seven starting pitchers that are 2 start/starters this week and had to bench Lindstrom because he is so bad! So eight starters pitching 15 games this week! I think I've had 12-13 starts in a week but somehow this week fell together. I know it doesn't mean much just thought it was a strange lineup quirk. But it should bump me in k's if nothing else. But as we all know it doesn't guarantee W's.

I'll follow up this post with how many wins I get. I'll put the over/under at 5 1/2. Althought I'm excited about the AL pitchers facing NL bats.

Without looking at your team, I will take the over! :D

Hey Wayne

Based on my pathetic starting pitching this year except Verlander and Maine and having a whopping 14 saves with bad whip and era numbers, I tried a different approach. Less might be more Started 4 rps Aardsma Nunez Pena J Howell with Maine benched good luck

Marty Hey Marty!

I have got the K's and the Wins are just a little short using six/seven SP each week. I started thinking I should have used four RP from the beginning of the year, but I would have just swapped my K/W points for better ERA/WHIP points. Not sure the trade-off would have been worth it. I see where you are going, though, and I hope it works.

Funny (in a sad way) about my pitching. I get about a strike-out in about 90% of IP, I am winning nearly 40% of my starts, and my K:BB ratio is about 2.4:1. All of this should add up to good ERA and WHIP, but it doesn't. Once again, like last year with Myers, I am falling into the trap of too many pitchers giving up too many HR. For example, Sonnanstine last night gave up only six hits in seven IP, but four of the hits were homeruns! Last year he gave up 21 HR in 193 IP. Not great but acceptable. This year in 63 IP, he has already given up 13. Bonderman gave up three last night. It is stuff like this that is killing my ERA/WHIP.

My ERA is so bad I need the type of innings only a SP can give me to bring it down. It is probably a downward spiral, but I need good starts and plenty of IP to claw back.

Well 4 starts last night, unfortunately my matchups were all against each other...Outman vs. Swarzak and Pettitte vs. Sonnanstine so after 4 starts...

22.2 IP 5.162 ERA 2 Wins 1.279 Whip 18 K's 0 Sv

Not great but I'll take the wins, whip and K's.

3 more starts tonight and again unfortunately Weaver vs. Shields are 2 of the starts tonight.

But the over in wins is looking good, for now.

I'm not trying to be harsh, I just don't get it.

I guess I'm missing out on the high interest in Bonderman.

This is a guy with a career ERA around 5.00, who has lost a couple of miles on his fastball.

Is there something I'm missing?

I just took/am taking a gamble on a guy with still an above average fastball (low 90's), who has shown good results in the minors recently, plays on a team that will give him a good chance to win, has been having real good movement/success with his slider during his rehab, and has been around for a few years, but is still only 26/27.

Of the risk/reward candidates, I rank him above most pitchers coming up from the minors whose first President they remember is Pres. Clinton, are barely past crapping green, and have a few dozen innings above AA ball. ;)

Pitching in general this year has been so un-predictable. Why not a few bucks on Bonderman. I myself have been so frustrated with my staff or shall I say lack of one all year. Verlander Cain Lackey Maine now with a dead arm. Thought Davies was going to be a decent SP5 or 6 Richmond was good for a while but has imploded, needless to say had to cut bait on both. Laying hopes on the Bastard to be real and A Miller to be serviceable. I get sick each time I see whose out there in free agency. Guess Contreras will go for 60 plus this week

Its funny that Contreras is mentioned with Bonderman.

Set age aside, their lifetime stats are almost identical. Bonderman has more k's, Contreras has an advantage in WHIP, wins and ERA.

Yet, when Contreras hits the Dump....Crickets.

Ok here is my update from last night

20.1 IP 2 Wins 1.77 ERA 1.13 Whip 13 K's 1 Save

so through 7 starts I've accumulated

43 IP 4 Wins 3.55 ERA 1.20 Whip 31 K's 1 Save

So the 5 1/2 over bet looks good with 8 more starts. Before this week started my ERA was around 4.40 and the whip was 1.37 so my pitchers are doing well. Now the AL pitchers get to eat up the NL batters!!!

Well 15 starts in the books...here are the final stats.

96 IP 7 Wins 4.12 ERA 1.19 WHIP 74 K's and 1 Save.

ERA rose 0.75 on Sunday thanks to Tallet. Thought I would get more K's but my ERA actually still went down and my Wins and Whip were very promising. So that's it.

But nobody actually answered my original question, have you ever had 15 starts in a week?

Oh well, thanks for playing...

Zip,zero, zilch, nada!!! That was my whole point, I didn't plan it, I didn't pickup any 2 start pitchers for the week. Just an oddity that I thought was kind of unusual. So yeah this week I only get 1 start out of everybody but if they are very good starts who cares!
