Spy is usually reliable. I would like to see swifter movement also, but everybody has stuff to do and can't always be checking in all the time. Let's give him at least till later this afternoon.

You cannot make too much of one draft especially a mock, but I find it interesting the closer run started in the middle. I have probably studied 25 different NFBC style drafts and I am pretty sure I have never seen that.

How many have you studied from 2007? I think the dynamics change from year to year.

But I don't agree with you anyway (surprise). Sure, it was a little unusual to not see a spare Rivera or K-rod fly off the shelf in round three, but the closer *run* usually happens in the fourth or even fifth round. It happened in the fourth here. I can't even remember a draft where the closer run started prior to that.

Wait, do I misunderstand? Are you saying in the middle of a round? That an end guy always starts the closer run? I don't look at stuff like that but it seems hard to believe since there are only two end guys in a given draft and one would always have to draft two closers in a row for it to make a difference that he was on the end and started the run.

Yes you did misunderstand I am sure it is my fault though....

by end of round I mean picks 1-3, 13-15 this one pretty much started with you in the middle.

Usually a closer run is started by one or more owners near the end realizing they have to break out and be the first because there will be 25-30 picks before they go again. This draft you started (with the exact pick I would have made too) probably because there just was not anything that attractive right there. No sure thing stud starting pitchers mostly. The other possible scenario is there is enough sure things perception wise offense this year to get you through round 3 and the turn of 4 without the run? I suspected this may happen a lot this year and the one draft albeit a mock so far supports it. Will it happen a lot only time and bjoak's wisdom will tell.

On your other post you comment that drafts change year to year, exactly my point I am speculating that this year's draft may see closers drafted a little differently than before.

Yeah, I understand better now and it makes sense. I did notice a few weeks ago that this next year's closer crop seems to be loaded with solid pitchers who will have good job security and that makes me think it's not as important to jump on one early. There are normally 15 solid options and 15 so-so or worse. This time it looks more like 25-5. Maybe the draft is reflecting a new lack of urgency w/r/t closers.

You're correct that I took K-Rod simply because he looked like the most valuable player at that point.
