What positions will the majority of the picks remaining come from?

Not including DH which 12 of us still potentially have as an open position, we need (not exact as we have picked at least 8 players who qualify for multiple positions):

16 OF

11 C

10 MI (more 2B only eligible players have been chosen than SS...I am a little surprised at that)

5 CM

50 PIT (two teams still have no closers/relivers)

How closely do you guys track this sort of information during the real draft?

edward- 1st, my dumb question- cm is what? corner infielders?. i will be drafting live - greg told me the positions are coded when they go up- are they color coded? if they are- pretty easy to track. if not- i will definately keep track. for satelites- i am not organized enough by computer or otherwise to do it fast enough. but if i was at either end- i would keep tack of the guys behind me. mike

I find I really don't have time to track it during the draft. Sometimes I look to see who might have what if I'm near an end and look at the end guys to see if I can leave this guy to take that guy or visa versa. I don't use a laptop at the draft and can't keep track of what everybody else is doing. I do have a very good knowledge of who is likely to go where and who is likely to be available where whether I'm targeting someone or if I need a backup plan cause things have gone a little differant than anticipated. I do try to be prepared for anything.

i also would say my observation is - it is really tough to win not having a closer at this point- but like i said- that is the one problem with mocking this early- 10-15 ? at closer- so guys wait.

CM is "Corner Men" (1B/3B).

Yes. The boards are large and sit in front of tables set up U-Shaped. Each name is on a tag and each position has it's own color. But the colors make it easy to spot, but not track (at least for me). By the time you get to the 10th or 15th round, their is just too many colors and too much information to discerne who needs what.

I actually track everything in a spreadsheet during the live draft but, unless I am in a corner (like I pick 13th or 14th) rarely does it affect my picking

Glad to see this is still going! Lots of nice teams. I was surprised to see Sanchez fall this far as well, I really doubt it in the real deal (unless injury/bad spring training).

I have Peralta down as a very interesting player to watch. If he bounces back, the up side is great

I usually have no interest in what the other teams are doing except to mutter under my breath when they take one of "my" players.

One odd habit I have is to look down my lists that I have worked hard to get just right only to have a sudden gut feeling and call out a players name that is maybe 5-7 names down from the top. Still don't know why, but it seems to work out most of the time.

Man, I bet we ALL do that. That gut feel or gamblers intuition.I wish I could say it works most of the time for me. I think that is why I ended up with Prior in the 7th last year...

If Leo can teach him how NOT to walk so many like he did a couple of years ago with Russ Ortiz, Cabrera could be awesome. Less than a hit per inning and more than a K per inning, and he will be what, 26, next year?

May actually qualify as a "sleeper"?

I know it's too early, but I can't take the chance on losing out on my Todd Jones insurance (of course the 100 k's out of the bullpen makes it easier to swallow).

some notes 1) zumaya was my next pick. from fantasy football: there is overall value and value to you. good backups are most valuable to the guys that have the starter. that (in my opinion) was the correct move- why risk it- you can get a decent pitcher later. 2)- leo mazz- i like him and i like a lot of managers and coaches. i love atlantas organization- but at the end of the day- it is about the players. smoltz, glavine maddux are great great players playing in front of a great defense. mazzone had a lasting influence- but the players did it.

by the way- and it may seem counter to what i said before- but i like cabrerra for the same reasons edward kings brought up- i just don't think that there aren't 10 coaches that could do it also- but mazzone is the best bet ( actually second behind maddux in milwaukee- and maybe 4th behind the sox and cards coaches.

17-12: Joel Zumaya Nothing wrong with Zumaya pick in the 17RD but for insurance who might have to get Fernando Rodney. Leyland likes Zumaya in the 7th & 8th, 33 times last year Zumaya pitch more than 1 inning in a game
