Jennings traded to the Astros today for Hirsh, Tavaras, and Bucholz. That pick of Burke a couple rounds ago looks much better now. I assume he's the new cf?

I'm not quite sure I get this trade. Hirsh had a great year at AAA (137IP, 2.43ERA, 1.14WHIP, .209OOBA) and both he and Buchholz are two of their top prospects. Taveras could easily steal 30+ if he keeps his OBA over league average.

I obviously like Jennings a lot, and I think he'll do well in Houston, but that seems like a very steep price to me.

[/QUOTE]I agree completely- no matter how well Jennings does in 2007- great trade for the Rockies.

Are we to the point where Colorado to Houston is considered a neutral move for pitcher's value?

i am. also, the astros seem like a team in full "now or never" mode. the rockies- if they can keep the ball from flying out of there- are starting to look very good.

by the way- bef- i will take the middle infielder that has already hit 20 homers 3 times- uribe. i just hope he stays out of jail. the guy in clorado hit 1 homer in 90 at bats- and never hit 20 in the minors. i say 10 is a reach

But I did see him play out in the AFL last month, and he was very sharp (329/.398/.468). Deric McKamey from BaseballHQ has him listed as the #1 prospect in that league, albeit with "gap power". So you're probably right about not reaching 20 dingers (although I'd be shocked if he didn't hit more than the 10 you're projecting). Even so, I'd rather have him than Uribe sitting in jail (or having deportation hanging over his head all season).

Actually, there is one last MI who could legitimately jack 20 if he stays healthy, and it'll be interesting to see if he gets picked up in the last round or so.

he will be picked but he can't stay healthy. i like uribe better- better park, more rbi etc. if he hits lower than .235 he won't be playing. i like troy- just commenting on your comment and how uribe seems a lock to hit 20- and no i don't expect him in jail. but were are mocking. by march we would know

If this were true shouldn't the Astro's have ponied up an extra two million to get Pettitte? They have had the worst off season possible. Signing Carlos Lee with his weight and lazy rap to a long termed deal, losing Pettitte which probably leads to losing Clemens, then lose their two best pitching prospects for a lease of Jennings for one year.

I think we should send Purpura an invitation to the NFBC.

Is it just me or is Jonny Gomes still on the board- may have missed him?

That guy needs to rent Rounders classic line if in a few minutes you have not found the sucker at the table that means you are the sucker- or something like it.

Look forward to drafting with you tonight- Per the expert knowledge of our possible new counterpart I will be going Jeff Kent somewhat early and Jonny Gomes after the first turn. Also made a sticky note that Chase Utley is valuable this year he tought me that too.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Utley is the darling of the position first fantasy players this year, isn't he? Last year it was VMartinez going in the second round that amazed me. This year seeing Utley going as high as second overall on some mock drafts...wow.Using the eraser a lot with him and Derek Lee in my rankings but for totally different reasons.

If you are like me you tend to know a lot more about a guy if you owned him the year before in the main event. That is the case with me and Utley. Nothing not to like about the guy and no one will argue that he is head and shoulders above the field at 2b, but he still does not crack my top 5. I referenced it because the guy wrote a post on it like he was revealing earth shattering information on him being a top guy for 07.

my guess is whichever teams figure out who the #2 second basemen will be- or luck into him in round 13- will have very good starts to their season. with all the good- not great- ones available- at least 1 will have a great year.

I agree completely- an Uggla in 06, or a Cantu in 05 are always huge but even more amplified in 07 b/c you will get a stud at an extremely thin field.

Agreed. The difference between #2-#5 (probably Roberts, Weeks, Cano, maybe Uggla) and those down at #10-#15 (i.e. Castillo, Kinsler, Hudson, Aurilia) isn't enough to justify a Top 10, especially since all of Roberts/Weeks et al have histories of injury (and who knows if Uggla is a fluke). Unless you grab Utley in the first, I don't see the need to grab at 2B until the 10th round at the earliest.
