2.05 Teixeira, M. ATL

I am torn between Martin and his position scarcity (and because I already have an OF) and C. Lee because he is the best, reliable player available. Any thoughts from the vets...

To keep the draft moving-

2.9- Carlos Lee
Neal Moses

2.9- Carlos Lee Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't touch Martin this early. Scarcity or not. C. Lee belongs there.

2.9- Carlos Lee Martin all day long in the 650ML auction league- Carlos Lee in all other leagues, but I would argue Vladi is the best pick there. Pair him with Holliday and you have a ton of batting avg flexibility built in for later.

Martin is a perfect guy at the turn pairing him with Arod on Hanley but not before IMO.

Early trending shows as many as eight OF'ers and one DH going in the second round. I would take C. Lee all day over Martin (accepting that I do not value the top four catchers as much as others), but with so many quality OF available in the second, you really have to second guess whether or not to take an OF in the first.

Of course, that is exactly what I did (take an OF in the first). My original strategy was to take Utley if he fell to me in the first and Phillips if he made to me in the second just to see if I could get a rise (though it could be a decent strategy). That didn't happen in either case, so I took Teixeira just a few picks early so I would not go OF-OF back to back.

I would never shy away from going OF with my first 2 picks. In fact I have won a regular season and satellite league doing it. Just my opinion-

[/QUOTE]Not arguing Lee over Vlad. I would take either over Martin. I think both belong mid 2nd round. I, like Wayne, wouldn't take Martin this early. I also don't think 2 OF back to back in the first 2 rounds is a bad thing depending on who's available. I wouldn't shy away or even give it a thought that I took 2 OF's with my first 2 picks.

I agree with you Kent. Especially this year it seems OF is going to be thin on quality and quality playing time. OF-OF is not bad especially if you are talking about the likes of Crawford, Holliday, Sizemore, or Soriano in the first.

Assuming Reyes, Rameriez, Rodriguez and Rollins are gone by the time you pick, my only point was if you had a chance at a Beltran, Berkman, Guerrero, or C. Lee in the second, maybe you take a 2B(Utley), 3B (Wright/Cabrera), or even 1B (Howard/Fielder) in the first.

for what it is worth- i agree with the vets on martin- 3rd round. the question that will be answered for me is this year is : is martin gonna be ivan rodriquez or maur. at this age i. rod started a string of unbelievable seasons. maur had 1. steroids probably helped i. rod. looking at the top 5-8 teams you see all 3 catcher strategies- 2 great ones earlier, 1 good one in rounds 5-9, and 2 marginal ones and the waiver wire juggling act. no clear strategy to "win". the only thing i am sure of- unless you really get lucky- you better be good on the waiver wire - or you ain't winnin' nutin'

Do I get skipped or something? LOL

I have a tough choice here, but I will take a flier on a potential bust.
