here is what happens when you rush - Greg sent me a note I was up...ran over, sounds like fun and always ready to draft, so I made a pick....sent PM to BobbyJ and in doing so discovered some young pup has taken the name captain....and that is not me, so I will PM him and if he wants to continue fine - may have to live with my ManRam pick if Jurney posts first.

2-15 Edwards Kings Being a disciple of the “take hitters early and wait on pitching” belief in fantasy baseball and having a draft spot that gives me a fair amount of quality choices at the four/five turn it is hard to take a pitcher in the second round. Yesterday with three picks before mine and the three Aces (IMO) still on the board, I was feeling that I might be in position to take the first SP and if that was the case I would have passed on a SP as there are only three teams to the turn and doubted that three of three NFBC players would go against the trend and take SP. However, Eli Grimmett & Doughboys took Lincecum & Santana back to back, leaving Sabathia as the only SP consideration left on the board for the second round. After CC’s 4th start of 2008 he had a 14.02 ERA and a 2.65 whip. Then over his last 235.7 innings he has had a 1.87 ERA and 1 whip. Only Doc Halladay has more 2008 IP then CC did over his final 31 starts (excluding those first four starts), so I don’t feel that this is too small of a sample size for comparison purposes. Only Lincecum had more K’s (by 14) in 2008, while Sabathia lead the league in Shutouts (5) and Complete games (10). However, during his 17 games in the NL he has even been more dominate – 7 CG’s in 17 starts with a 1.65 ERA. In the era of blown saves (see Johan Santana win totals) it is vital to your wins total to have a guy that can go 9 innings, and there aren’t many of those, as only three other SP had four or more complete games in 2008. If I am going to spend an early pick on a SP that should anchor my staff in ERA, K’s and whip I want some comfort in these quality outings becoming wins and feel safer with Sabathia coming back out in the 9th then Brian Wilson or what the Mets call a relief corp.
