Team Names Prior to Draft

Post by devilznj » Tue Jan 17, 2006 5:43 pm

I don't know if this has been brought up or not, but all during the season we follow the TEAM NAMES in our league that we compete against. But we can't really easily place a face to the team since at the draft there is no team name designation.

I know you guys have a million things to do before the draft, but having the folks running the draft calling out THE WHATEVERS instead of TEAM 1, TEAM 2, etc. I think would add alot to the leagues as we can place a face/personality to the team name. A simple folded paper nameplate with the team name (which could even be filled in by the teams at the draft) would easily accomplish this.

Interested to know if anyone else feels the same.

One thing we did in our National Fantasy Football Championship this year was to include the owner's names with the team names in the Overall Standings. I'll ask STATS to do that again. Maybe that way after the draft you can kind of line up the names of the owners with the team names you met on Draft Day.

As for during the draft, feel free to write your team names on the nameplates that currently say Team 1, Team 2, etc.

HEY PROSPECTORS i totally agree with you.We should have the guys names , and team nick names on their cards . IT would make it a lot easier to meet guys you chat with all year on the message boards.I will always remember in NY , THAT AROD went nu1 in all leagues but one. That would be us NY 7. Thank you prospectors because i too would have gone beltran, but ended up with PULJOS. I will be in vegas this year , so if i dont see you , good luck. AND stay away from beltran.

[/QUOTE]This is a great idea. Last year, I kind of looked forward to hearing my team name called out when I made my first pick. Maybe it's just the kid in me but "Team 9" just doesn't have the same allure. Anyway, I don't know if I'm enough of an extrovert to run around the table before the draft trying to get everyone to write down their team names. To have them waiting for us would be outstanding, but it would suffice to have our nameplates say something like 5.__________ which will kind of force everyone to fill it in and if anyone really wants to write Team Smith or Team 5 they will even have the option to do that.

The reception is great but anything that gets your actual league a little more interaction is a good idea. Most would agree one of the main reasons this is a great thing vs online is the human interaction. We made an effort to introduce ourselves to everyone- therefore knew who both of out main competition was- in fact we ate lunch with one of them after.

If a nametag helps with that I am all for it.

come on greg- you need one more look at the tea party.

I recognize Captain Hook- they did not invite bjoak. Something about they do not want to be friends with anyone who scripts their drafts.

I too struggle with showing my deep sleepers, but I may do it because one adjustment I am making this year is taking guys I like a lot as sleepers a little earlier than last- so I should be able to get them anyway. Well, I'm glad to see you're learning something from these little exchanges.

Oh Brian our time together has run its course. Essentially between 100's of posts the viewers have gotten to see 2 people strong in their views.

I will leave you with a few numbers.

1st and 5th

15th and 102nd

5000 and zero-

We can take this up again and settle our disputes in a direct way on Feb 21st at 7pm.

I know it is an early draft but we both know where preparation got you last year.

The only thing that stands between now and Feb 21st is time and your fear.

Toodle do!

PS: You have become obsessed with me have you not?

I played against some great guys with some great teams- things broke our way at the end. I also do not like to talk about last year's success PS Don't displace your fantasy life on me. Exactly what kind of porn star are you anyway?

Is quoting facts boastful? Those numbers are not as much about me, as they are about you being a legend in your own mind.

You never seem to get around to talking about 2/21 and my challenge to you?

I have done everything short of calling you a total moron for 6 straight months- here is your chance to shut me up forever and you keep dodging it. Why Brian why?

Seriously, yes, I won't have enough time to prepare and I don't have time for another league so unless I have a big change of heart it's not gonna happen. It would be fun to compete against you, but the draft practice is the main thing that would compel me to do it, given the drawbacks. However, I will invite you to the head-to-head league I run if you're interested. It's free and competitive. And we'll get to actually compete head-to-head at least twice.

I play for money- and I think most people would tell you head to head leagues are not always about skill especially ones with unlimited moves.

If you want I will move back my draft just to compete against you- if you find your balls between now and then just let me know.

My suggestion- neutral court- we compete for money, against each other all year.

Your suggestion- I join your homer league, nothing on the line, against each other twice.

I took you as dumb, but a coward?

PS Spare me the time excuse, it is prep work you will be doing anyway and how much extra time does one league with weekly transactions take anyway? Especially when you have to do the research for your main event team anyway every week.

Haven't you guys ever heard of fun? It's what you do to enjoy life more.

Rockhead, I don't disagree with you about head-to-head, at least compared to the nfbc with large rosters and totals, but it's no less accurate than real baseball with wins, playoffs and a series, where the best team doesn't always win. But that's true with anything.

I don't get the competing against each other twice comment as in any cumulative event you never compete against each other at all except in the overall totals and the same is true for head-to-head all year long.

Anyway, we'll both be in the nfbc, me, all by myself, and you with your partner, and we'll se how it works out. It's not like we're not already in the same event.

The beauty of the sat league is no partners, therefore your last excuse would be gone. Find your nuts Brian. We both talk a big game- one of us is willing to back it up.
