NFBC Main Event Is Filling Up

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Thu Jan 19, 2006 2:59 am

I'm happy to report that we passed the halfway point of our goal of 330 teams in the NFBC main event yesterday and we're well on our way to filling up a 12th league this week. We currently have 171 signups between the four cities and we are well ahead of last year's pace when we sold out all 300 spots. This year we will settle between 330 and 375 teams as we try to get full leagues in each city.

When we got our 165th signup on Tuesday, it made me recall two years ago when we struggled to sell this idea to enough players. One week before our signup deadline, we had 154 signups and made the decision to guarantee the prize money even though we knew we'd lose a lot of money with only 11 leagues when we had based the prize money on 300 teams. Fortunately, we had over 40 signups during that final week and we went with 195 teams and 13 leagues that first year. It was a financial loss, but we had set the foundation for what was hopefully going to be a successful event for years to come.

Today we're obviously sitting in much better shape and the future looks VERY bright. Signups for all of our events are up this year and I'm confident we'll be well above last year's totals across the board. And with any luck, we'll have a major announcement soon that will change the NFBC forever.

THANKS EVERYONE for your trust and support and get ready for a great, great 2006 season. Trust me, the best lies ahead for all serious fantasy baseball players who enjoy this format. It's fun to look back on what we've all created in three short years, but the future is what I'm concentrating on and you're not going to believe what we have in store. Stay tuned, and grab a spot now if you're interested in competing in 2006 because we're well on our way to filling up.

[/QB]This feels like Christmas eve, if only I could find where you've hidden the "presents"...

I'm still teetering on signing up, I'm thinking a satellite league would be the best way for me to start so I can learn the system???

But, a "Present" may sway my choice!!!
It's what you learn after you know it all that counts.

So come on Greg, give us a clue on that major announcement.

By the way, I received my copy of Fantasy Sports in the mail yesterday, very nice. I would like to throw out a comment, how about in next years first magazine of the baseball season that you list all the NFBC leagues and the 1-3 place finishers along with their city and state. Everyone like that kind of publicity and the folks looking in from the outside can see that anyone can win. Thank you!

I did it last year and was pretty excited by the results. I had an amazing time all summer long. I am going to do the satellites (to get some draft practics under my belt before the big event), but nothing beats the in-person drafting fun that we had last year!!

We had hoped to put in the feature stories Tom wrote on the league champs, but page counts were tough again this issue. But a listing makes good sense.

Thank you! yes, this is a good idea. one key to keeping your customers year in and year out is to make them feel like stars. for the common person, seeing your name in a fantasy baseball magazine will do just that

lol, so far it's still on, but I have the rehearsal dinner on Friday night, thus killing my auction draft. The church ceremony is at 4:30pm on Saturday in Jersey only 20 minutes from the Hilton in NYC, so I will either do the first half of the draft and have a partner finish it, or if I catch too much heat from my brother, I will just have a partner do the entire draft for me...either way I'll figure it out and have an entry in the main event...the challenge will be how hung over will I be to draft on Sunday at noon? Gotta have my priorities right
