Thoughts on Alfonzo Soriano. Think he will be traded again or play in the outfield - assuming Vidro is healthy? In my lists, he has dropped like a rock. Then I watched long fly balls barely reach the warning track at RFK last year.

In the Magazine League, will there be a single FAAB period right before the seson begins? My guess is that a lot of FAAB bucks will be bid on closers that first week.

Tough one with Soriano. He's a very talented guy in my opinion but that's not a friendly park for his power. Plus there's the issue of whether he'll play the OF or not. I've seen him fall in some drafts already. If he did in mine, I'd probably pounce because that's the kind of talent that can overcome what looks to be a bad situation. I do think he should be good for plenty of SBs no matter what.

Not sure if this will get answered....

On average in the NFBC, how many closers are usually drafted by each team. I am not in the main, only a satellite and this is my first year so I am curious.

I'm not sure what the answer is to the closer question to be honest. Maybe some of the folks here could step up and share what they remember from their leagues.

My experience is that most teams shoot for two closers at the draft.

Realize that during the season, the turnover rate is high. Of the 30 presumed closers last March, 15 are still closers with the same team. Two are closers on different teams. That leaves 13 closers who are new from last March's lists.

Thanks Viper, I have usually gone against the norm in regards to this..3-5 but was curious as to what others do.

It's nice to have those closers who can come in 3+ nights a week and get you almost 3k's each outing. A lot of times they can be more valuable than the 4th or 5th starting pitcher on a team.

too many closers means too few actual starts. Starts is where you get wins and strikeouts

In recent mock - 3 teams drafted 3 closers (or presumed closers), 9 drafted 2 closers, 2 drafted 1 closer, and 1 did not draft a closer or potential closer.

Taking 3-5 closers who give you 3 k's a night, will certainly cost you 3-5 picks out of your top ten. Ergo, your offense will suffer. But give it a shot. Nothing wrong with relievers...

as I recall, the overall champion in the first season did not draft a closer. He ended up with two however and got a reasonable number of saves. Would have liked to know how much FAAB he spent on them.

Tom,

Checked out Mock Draft Central for Mag II League. Looks ok 'cept the time and date are wrong - States "1-27-06, 8pm est". Should it not be - 1-26-06, 7pm est?

It is 7 p.m. ET. I e-mailed Jason to make sure that is correct on the site. Thanks Dak for the heads up.

I don't think it is so much how many closers you have but how many saves you get, so quality counts. Look at last years stats in the different leagues and you will get a feel for how many saves you might need to end up where you want to in saves. Some folks like to be at the top, others are happy with the middle numbers and a few just write off the category.
