Hi all! Drafting 10th, which was my third best preference, so that works out well. This is my 7th year in the NFBC main event. Looking forward to meeting and competing with everyone. Should be fun.

Whats Up Everyone-
Ill be right next to you Kevin. Picking #11 ain't too bad. Plus being at Shea (Citi) without having to watch Steve Trachsel or Tim Redding sure will be a treat. Good Luck everyone. See you in a few days. Also we'll be drafting Juan Samuel. Just so you guys are emotionally prepared.
Best,
Lopi

The main event draft lasts 4-5 hours; that's about how long it took Steve Trachsel to pitch 5 innings! ... I'm a Red Sox fan, so you needn't worry about me beating you to Luis Castillo with my first round pick just ahead of yours!

A few random thoughts on the draft ... For months I had been planning to take Miguel Cabrera in the first round had I not landed one of the top 3 picks in the draft. Only in the two weeks leading up to the draft did I waver from that strategy. Instead I shifted focus to Ryan Howard or Even Longoria. Curiously, Howard and Longoria both went prior to pick #10, so I wound up with Cabrera anyway! So much for planning and re-planning! ... Usually there are numerous times when a player you want (and reasonably expect to get) at a certain point in the draft goes one or two picks before your turn. Those are oh s&*#@ moments! I only had one of those all day. Round eight. I passed on Alex Rios in round 7, hoping he'd get back to me. He has been ridiculously undervalued (IMO) throughout the NFBC. Red Sox Nation grabbed him two picks before me. I got lucky though. Alexei Ramirez was still on the board, so I got him instead. Not a bad tradeoff. ... A few of us were talking after the draft. We noticed how spread out the closers seem to be. Team one got two big closers (Rivera/Papelbon). A few others have two closers that could be good. Most of us got exactly one reliable closer. ... Speaking of team one, it's funny how a Yankee fan wound up with 4 Red Sox amongst his first nine picks!

I was the guy from the 1 hole, my buddy was the Yankee fan. He has a RedSox hat on the way from me.
Heading into the draft our plan was Pujols, VMart, and then either Pedroia or Phillips. We then wanted one of the big 3 closers at 4/5, but would've never thought one would make it back to us at 6/7. Caught us very much by surprise but we felt we couldn't pass it up. The closers fell due to the major run on SPs.

Tampa Bay,
Sorry for presuming you were a Yankee fan. I figured who else would bemoan having to select Boston players!
Yes, I was surprised the elite closers lasted as long as they did. Once the closers started going though, they flew off the board quite swiftly. I was able to land Brian Fuentes in round 9. He's good, not great, but should get plenty of saves w/Angels.
