It's been years. I guess it's time to forget.

Maybe this will help...

Other fun reading on the topic should include the utopian "Brave New World" by Huxley and "It Can't Happen Here" by Sinclair Lewis.

Please also do not forget that we have had a few dictators in our past when it comes to expanded executive powers (Lincoln, and FDR come to mind). I do not mind the "action" (tapping suspects)...I mind forgoeing the process that was established in order to allow for timely survelience. I mean they had a court panel that was all but a rubber stamp and all they had to do was present there. So the act is not as abherrant to me as the poor planning committed by the Administration.

And think as well, if any one of those poor individuals who had there phone tapped had NOT been tapped, then strapped 50lbs of C4 to their worthless carcasses, and set it off at a daycare, the "loyal" opposition would be screaming that the Administration wasn't doing enough to protect Americans.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

I've read that the FISA court "used to" rubber stamp virtually all the requests in the previous administration, but under the current administration, over 500 requests were not approved timely enough, so that contributed to the need to change tactics to stay ahead of the terrorist chatter patterns...

WOW. This really isn't a baseball thread.

Laws are for everyone---especially for people with extra power who when corrupt can do harm to any of us .

2003 - General Tommy Franks says that if the United States is hit with a weapon of mass destruction that inflicts large casualties, the Constitution will likely be discarded in favor of a military form of government.

Look my last freaking name is Baum - if I am not worried about the NSA listening to my phone calls I think everyone else can relax.

Oh and for those who seem to not realize it - Orwell wrote FICTION. What's next? Citing a Batman comic book that talks about a "police state" in Gotham?

That sure is nice to know because I have been basing my life off of a bird known as "Moses the Raven." And now I find out he is not real!

BTW, your comparison of Orwell to a DC comic is WAY off base...not even close...So I must ask..have you ever read Orwell?? If so, I think you would realize it is not quite fiction as you say.

Wasn't Orwell's 1984 a novel that was essentially a satire on totalitarianism? The whole book was based on imaginary people, places (Oceania) and things. Translation: he made it all up! I believe most libraries would have a hard time classifying such a book in the non-fiction section...

Let's not attack past, current or future Presidents on this thread. I'm sure we can do better than that.

Sorry, Bruce, I didn't realize that re-reporting the facts of history was considered an attack. Just trying to keep the balance here...
