[/qb]
I too voted for Bush based more on his "faith" more than anything. Regret it everyday as well.
I wonder though, do you think Kerry would be handling the situation better? [/QB]
We will never know, it wasn't Kerrey's situation, was it.

I too voted for Bush and am moving closer to the regret it column and if the other choice was not John Kerry I would already be there.
This thing with the UAE is exactly what causes him problems.
What good has Dick Cheney brought to this administration? Someone please answer me that. If you buy he is the steady hand- I feel sorry for you. Sure he is the steady hand- it is where he chooses to put that hand, and his whole attitude of never admit when you are wrong that kills me.

When all is said and done, Cheney will go down as one of history's worst VP's. Most noteworthy for both having heart attacks and causing them.

Now that I think of it, he was mostly harmless (mostly due to his uselessness).

We (Americans) have not had a good track record lately for VP's. Not many have had the Country's confidence that they could sit in the "Big Chair"...
Nixon - Agnew NOT
Nixon - Ford Never elected, lost in '76
Carter - Mondale Lost in landslide in '84
Reagan - GHW Bush Won in '88, Lost in '92
Clinton - Gore Lost in '00 (yes, he really lost)
GW Bush - Cheney Will never run (one pork chop from Arlington)
Cheney has a lot of enemies. He has served as the administation point (hatchet) man much like Nixon was to Eisenhower. Worst? Probably not...but being the Administration muscle for eight years on Capital Hill will not win many friends or soften your place in history.
By the way, as a prize Greg has arranged for one of the weekly NFBC winners to go bird hunting with Big Dick...bring your own iodine...

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Not that facts matter in these debates but still..
Fact one The US has been using the UAE ports in the gulf for 20 years. Its the only place over there where our Aircraft carriers pull in. Believe me they don't take a risk with those multi billion dollar ships. Bill Clinton has been making money over there making speaches. His wife doesn't have a clue or is doesn't care about the country. Either way H. Clinton is toast for running for president. A. Gore will run and lose again.

The fact is that the USA has a negative balance sheet and american people live on credit. Bush should work on that..if not than the european central bank will stop funding the USA.
Good-day
Dutchman European Central Bank "funding" the US...boy are you all wet. If memory serves, the world from growth areas such as Asia-Pac to third rate European former colonial powers who long for the good old days when the world just moved fast enough for them to understand...say the 1600's...beat down the door to invest in the US because never has the world seen an safe, robust economic engine as the US. European Central Bank my $$$...if the US restricted the flow of foreign investment, Europe would fold and do what it normally does in time of crisis. Cry poor me and hope there is someone out there to bail them out.
If you are referring to the US National Debt (which is partially due to the fact Europe has been under the security blanket of American Defense spending since Europes weak economies and third rate militaries were unable to keep the nasty **** 's or Communists at bay) you must consider it against the Gross National Product which puts the debt in true relation to economic health.
If you happen to be referring to the latest study saying Americans are not saving, please spare us your Euro-Trash sentiments. The study did not consider 401k savings (a plan not reliant on economically crippling socialist government programs but rather a rational system of self-funded retirement) and growth in real estate assets.
Due to American "credit" the single currency in Europe is the Euro not the deutschmark and the European people are not force to sing the Horst Wessel Song (or Die Fahne Hoch if you prefer) as a matter of course!

And she wants to run for what office?
Hillary Clinton, a leading opponent of DP World's takeover of some US port operations, was this week forced to admit that she did not know her husband had advised Dubai leaders on how to handle the growing dispute.
But former President Bill Clinton's ties to Dubai and the United Arab Emirates should not have come as a surprise to his New York senator wife.
Mrs Clinton's own senatorial financial disclosure forms reveal that her husband earned $450,000 giving speeches in Dubai in 2002.
Officials from the UAE also donated between $500,000 and $1m to fund Mr Clinton's presidential library in Arkansas.
It was part of an effort by the emirates, said a person close to UAE officials, to forge a close relationship with a former US president who is influential and highly regarded in the region.
Mr Clinton's admiration for the UAE was last on display in November, when he made his fourth visit to the American University in Dubai and met students participating in the Clinton scholarship programme.
The UAE has also contributed $100m to Hurricane Katrina relief funds – which Mr Clinton had a leading role in raising.
Mrs Clinton's tough stance that the deal represented an "unacceptable risk" to national security has caused UAE officials some consternation.
Regarded as the leading Democratic candidate for the 2008 presidential elections, she has used the deal – which polls show is disliked by most Americans – and the anti-Arab sentiment it sparked to attack the Bush administration on national security, an issue that has been seen as a weak point for Democrats.
Although Mrs Clinton has been careful not to criticise the UAE directly, her stance has put her in the same camp as legislators who openly accuse Dubai of helping to finance the September 11 terrorist attacks and deem the UAE untrustworthy.
Privately, some Democrats see the revelations about his ties to the UAE as a classic Clinton dilemma. Mrs Clinton told the New York Post on Thursday that she did not know her husband had been contacted by Dubai officials two weeks ago and offered them advice on the deal. Although both Hillary and Bill Clinton say he stands behind her on the issue and there is no direct conflict, his relationship to the UAE has complicated her political stance on the transaction.
Meanwhile, the UAE has sought to quell the backlash against the takeover by hiring some Clinton officials - and Republicans - to lobby on Dubai's behalf.
