Let's See Some Early Draft Results: 6 Rounds Per League

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Tue Dec 27, 2011 3:19 pm

Okay, the fantasy football season is now over and it's time to really start thinking about the upcoming fantasy baseball season. Some owners have been thinking about baseball since the last day of the MLB season while some of you have been busy winning money in football. Some have even been doing the dirty work, competing in early pay Slow Drafts and setting the early ADPs.

Now those, you'd like to see, right?

Okay, we posted some of the early draft results from the AFL and NFBC pay leagues, but now it's time to start looking at the Slow Draft leagues. We already have five leagues drafting and I'll showcase the first six rounds of each league randomly. I don't want anyone pointing out which league they are in or giving away who the owners are in each league, so let's be smart here. But I'll whet everyone's appetite with the first 90 picks so that we can have some fun analyzing the early picks. Sound good?

Here's the first of four Slow Draft League results I'll post today. Enjoy:

random thoughts...
1. highly unlikely that strasburg will return enough in 160IP to validate 4th round picks THIS year
2. looks like the matt moore secret is out
3. mccann in the mid 5th
4. posey could have 3rd round value this year. i expect him to be going there come march (assuming his spring training looks okay)
5. ryan zimmerman in the 4th. WOW. seems like a GREAT pick there 8-)

I think the Ryan Braun drafters in the 2nd and 3rd rounds will be very disappointed......

BUT not as disappointed as those who drafted Michael Young if they think he gets to play at second base

Wow, you have to like that start from team 14 in the first draft.

Prince Fielder, Hanley Ramirez, Mike Napoli, Dan Haren, Michael Young and Adam Wainwright :o

1) Why is Michael Young listed as 2B? - he only qualifies at 1B and 3B

2) Why aren't all pitchers just designated as P?

3) The Matt Moore lovefest continues to grow

I'm in the last league that was posted. A few random notes

-Don't like Kershaw in the first round. Yea, he was dominant last year, but what are the odds he does that again?
-Granderson shouldn't have fallen to mid-second round.
-I think anyone picking Brett Lawrie early is going to be in for a rude awakening.

Why?

I agree that if you extrapolate the numbers he put up over 43 games to 162 you get MVP like numbers. That would make him a sure fire 1st rounder. So - it seems that drafters (save for the guy who went all in in Rd 2) have already factored his age and lack of track record into the equation. He's a slight health risk, I guess, so I could see that - but still if Lawrie regresses off of last years pace - he's still looking at 20/20 at 3rd base - with the already demonstrated upside for more. I guess I am just curious as to why you think he'll fall short of those numbers, which you obviously do according to your statement.

He's practically a baby. How many times have we seen the big time prospect come up, do well, then regress the next year? And the whole "Look what he did in 43 games" doesn't mean he'd be 30/30 over 162.

A keeper league, absolutely makes sense, but expectations way too high

I just don't see the rude awakening that you predict coming. How often have we seen the sophomore slump? Yeah we've seen it - but we are talking about third base here, and if you look at the other names on the board when you will be considering Lawrie - Wright, Youkilis, Arod, Zimmerman etc - can you honestly say that any of these injury risk veteran guys are any safer than taking a gamble that this kid is for real? In the NFBC - all it takes is ONE drafter to have a plan with Lawrie as a key piece to move him up the board. If he has a hot Spring - those 4th rd picks will look like bargains.

I - I'd say better than average.

2 - I agree. I don't fault the other drafters who took P & other pos. players, but 2 OF were taken before Grandy, (Stanton & McCutchen). Hello Guys! Grandy man is on the Yankees. No way I take any OF at that pt other than him.

3 - I guess it depends on health (duh) & how early is early (in this draft I agree w/ u that rd 4 seems too early, but then I'm not a cradle-robber either...oooh, but I do luv me sum matt moore, on that wagon babe  )
Always be closing.
