Using Mobile Devices for Slow Drafts

Post by RobG » Tue Jan 10, 2012 4:23 pm

I am not sure everyone is aware of this, but its a feature that will no doubt speed up some of the current Slow Drafts. With the HTML option being available to owners this year, you don't have to marry yourself to your laptop or PC to complete the draft.

I have used an Ipad, Ipod and Android device to make picks in the html format. Its pretty much seamless once you are logged in, which could cause some issues, with my only issue thus far being that there isn't a way to draft from my queue.

I only post this to let people know that this is an option if you know you will be away for several hours and don't want to hold up the rest of the owners in the league.

This is good info Rob. I guess I didn't even realize you could draft from the mobile device. NICE. It makes sense that you can do that with the HTML option. Great stuff. Now, everyone who is on the clock GET ON YOUR CELL PHONE AND PIIIIIIICCCCCK!!

Greg - It may be a good idea to advertise this in the next email newsletter. It's a great option to be able to draft on your cell phone.

I got an ipad2 recently and signed up for a draft this afternoon on mockdraftcentral.com. The ipad2 does not have Flash and apparantly I can not download/upload Flash onto the Apple product. I am not technologically advanced by any stretch of the imagination, but I think I'm kinda screwed here. If anyone can help me out on that or tell me something I don't know, I would greatly appreciate it.

The reason I tried mockdraftcentral is because KJ's MLBC league is starting Thursday and that is where his draft is located.

As for Android devices capabilities, I do have a Samsung smartphone via Verizon that runs the Android system. I haven't tried anything on that yet, but will take a look at that this evening. Thanks for the heads up there.

Yes, I drafted my first slow draft, while traveling to Florida and back and made at least 20 picks from my cell. FYI - you can draft from Blackberry and I-Phone as well. I have an android and it is simple in HTML. The only issues are drafting from the que and posting on the message board, though you can see the message board for recent picks. You can also switch on/off auto draft, etc. If you do need to draft from que, you can log on to the flash and draft from your que, but it will freeze up if you stay on too long. So, if you know who you want to draft or have an idea, logon to HTML, scroll down all of the players available and find the guy you want, and draft the player, right from your phone. I have announced this on the boards of each of the slow drafts I have been in... but have received little response. Its a great tool

Google Adobe Flash and Steve Jobs and you'll see the reason why Flash isn't on any Apple products. He was determined to either eliminate Flash altogether or felt it would not be needed soon enough. Either way, you'll never find Adobe Flash on an Apple product.

I am not a techie myself, but I travel quite a lot so I am constantly finding new ways to use the iPad and Android phone. You more than likely will not be able to use Mock Draft Central's site on either device. They would have to have an HTML option. This is also true for anyone trying to do a draft on an airplane using Flash or Quicktime (Yahoo, Sportsline, ESPN)

Another point to make on this is that the html version is not a great in any format where the picks have a time limit of less than say five minutes as it may become cumbersome trying to update the page.

In any sense, I have enjoyed being in the slow drafts this year and having the freedom to draft where ever I may be getting a signal on my phone. (I have both Sprint and Verizon...both work)

No flash for Apple products. You need to use the HTML option. It works fine.

Robert,

Again not a techie here....do you think I'll be able to draft via HTML on MDC? If I recall from my experience today, I was pretty much stopped in my tracks on MDC with Flash.

Any help appreciated!

Thanks everyone.

From what I remember trying to do a MDC draft from an airplane (no flash), was that they didn't have an HTML option.

I am a techie and I can tell you a few things. First, there is a way to get flash on an Ipad. Iswifter 3.0 is the best and most common. Second, you cannot draft HTML on the Mock Draft Central site. Only Flash. There is a section on the site to test your computer for accessibility to the draft room. Test it out and see. The Android product does allow for flash temporarily, but will freeze. If you are making a quick pick and have it queued up, then you will be able to make it. But eventually it will freeze and you will not be able to navigate. My suggestion is, get the adobe flash that is available for the ipad. If you need additional help, send me a pm. Cannot give you all of the instructions here, but I can refer you to some referenced sites and forums.

Actually the HTML option was available through the fanball website for the NFBC games last year. It worked just fine. Glad to see that it's available again this year. It should help facilitate the process.
