NFBC Poker Tournament

Post by Captain Hook » Sat Feb 18, 2006 7:57 am

While we are only 90% confirmed on this, with only four weeks left to the NFBC, I wanted to get the details posted and let people pre-register. To be in the Poker Tournament, you MUST be registered as a participant (manager or co-manager on a team in the NFBC or be a facilitator or staff member). NO exceptions to this.

You MUST fill out the application. You can use the one posted below or email [email protected] for one to be mailed to you. EACH player must fill out a separate application and return it.

We will be limited to four or five tables which should be plenty from the postings and people have contacted me, but if everyone jumps in, you must be pre-registered (or hope there are spots open).

THE TOURNAMENT WILL BE SATURDAY, MARCH 18 AT 7 PM

ENTRY WILL BE $150+30

You do not need to send money now. All of that will be taken care of at NFBC registration tables on Friday and Saturday mornings. Please do not call the Rio directly about the tournament (often the staff at the Poker rooms do not post private tournaments and the hotel people don't have the information).

If you have any questions you may post or send me a PM.

The Poker Tournament will be held at the RIO.

I say that monies may be paid at the Stardust - at the NFBC registration tables - where we will have a representative from the Poker Tournament.

I would of done it had it been at the Stardust.

I just don't want to wait 2 hours for a cab each way. That weekend is crazy for getting around.

You could walk across the street to the Gold Coast (no taxi line) or take the complimentary shuttle (runs about every 20 minutes between the Rio and Harrahs) to get back to the strip.

My last trip there for baseball I went to the taxi line at 4:00AM on Sunday to catch a flight home. There was like 50 people waiting for a taxi. One cab every 20 minutes or so. One of the people there had a cell phone and called a limo service. Its the only reason I caught my flight. I'm not sure I'd trust a shuttle to be prompt on that Saturday night. Not knocking the Rio, a nice place. But Las Vegas is a zoo during March madness.

March Madness is not what makes Vegas a zoo. It's what conventions are in town. And over almost a two month stretch starting next week, March Madness week is just about the slowest of them all this year. But thanks for the input Walla. You're uncanny ability to be magnificently wrong at every opportunity is awe-inspiring. Just a thought, the next time you go out to eat, say this: "I always have tuna on toast. Nothing's ever worked out for me with tuna on toast. I want the complete opposite of tuna on toast. Chicken salad, on rye, untoasted ... and a cup of tea."

Okay, I know we have plenty of guys who want to do this in Las Vegas, but just haven't signed up yet. Perry has to guarantee space with the Rio, so he's edgy and I understand the concern about getting from the Stardust to the Rio, but honestly that's an easy one as you just hop on I-15 and bust over. I'll even reserve a bus to take everyone over there if that helps. You guys can chip in for that expense if you want it, but I'll handle the details.

So do me a favor and put your name on this thread if you're interested. I know Eddie G. has at least two and KJ Duke has two and maybe Dyv and the LBS gang will jump in this year. It's hard to tell since our little leader has gone silent on us. But let's get a list of names and we'll worry about the money until we get to Vegas. Sound good?

TO be honest im not sure if im in or not. I wanted to see how i feel after the draft, if not wiped out , was thinking of playing , but i dont want to sign up , then have to be in. I WILL have to think about, and check in with my partner and explain to him how this is working.

Sorry im not just sure if i can go 5 hours after the draft in another hotel.

Pretty wussy ED - look at if from a different point of view............

You start the draft in the morning and by the time it finished you have excitement, exhilaration and a little fatigue - but after a few cold ones, perhaps a nap, or a few more cold ones and a shower and dinner - what the hell else are you going to do for the rest of the night?

Forget analysing your mistakes in the draft or Gekko's crappy team and come play cards with some other great NFBCers.

Your right captain, just had a tough time in my last tournament. After about 10 beers in 3 hours ,and waiting on the pizza which took for ever to get their, when i was done eating , i was wiped out. I didnt care about the 100.00 dollar buy in and wanted out, but i had to many chips. So at this time 6 guys were out , they drew high card for my team, the deal was if either guy won the tourney , we would split the 800.00 1st prize. BINGO the replacement player took it home. So is this considered a win.

Kind of cheesey.

Hook, just checking to see if you've still got room in the poker tourney. Also wondering if you've got any info about the tourney structure, i.e. blinds & time limits per round. I'm interested in playing, but not if it's gonna be an "all-in" fest like last year.

Guys, I can't really give you blinds/payouts etc until I have a better idea of how many, but my tendency is to payout everyone who makes the final table and payout higher percentage to the winner than most tournaments.

We WILL have plenty of time, so that is not a problem this year. Actually we are looking at a small field - guessing three tables now unless a lot of signups in the next five days.

For those of us who play it will just be fun to relax, have a few drinks and tell draft stories with other good guys - and enjoy some cards.

Hey folks - still time to sign up for the Poker Tournament. As of now it looks like we will have a small tournament - two or three tables, but still a couple of grand for the winner.

20-25% of the entrants will cash at the final table, and the winner will get about 45% of the Prize pool. More info later. Remember we are limited in the number of entrants we can have, so first come, first serve.

Monday morning update - Unfortunately there are still people who have not sent in their applications who want to play poker. Here are the signups I have so far:

Michael Zukowski

Ronald Kraus Jr.

Jules McLean

Perry Van Hook

George Beason

Marc Childs

Shawn Childs

Gary Cowham

John Crane

Scott Keikoan

Josh Paley

There are several others on the boards who have said they were going to play, but not sent the application - PLEASE do this today or tomorrow so we can get a better handle. Best guess now is we have two or three tables. We will take signups on Friday to whatever max the casino gives us this week.

Eddie - what about all those NY brothers you are bringing to Sin City?

Greg - any staffers want to contribute?
