KDS Deadline For The Main Event

Post by Tom Kessenich » Wed Feb 22, 2006 2:45 am

Hey everyone, just a heads up that at this point our plan is to set a deadline of midnight March 8th to have everyone finalize their KDS settings for the Main Event. We anticipate being sold out at that point and if that occurs Greg and I will begin picking and announcing leagues on Thursday March 9th.

That's the plan right now. So get your KDS preferences set because it's getting closer to the big day.

KDS Deadline For The Main Event

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Wed Feb 22, 2006 4:05 am

Here's a few tidbits to know about the KDS process:

1) Tom and I are working with STATS to output an Excel document of your Draft Preferences on Thursday, March 9th and those will be the ones we'll use for the main event. It's possible that you'll have access to change them online after that, but just realize that we're taking the ones you've set as of midnight, March 8th.

2) If we are still taking signups after that date, we'll contact all new signups immediately and get their KDS spots to add to the spreadsheet. But as Tom said, hopefully we'll be sold out early this year and get your draft spots to you a bit early this year. Some plans don't always work out, but at least we'll have most of the KDS spots done and in front of us anyways.

3) If you haven't' done so already, go to MY TEAMS, then click on MY SETTINGS (way to the right) and pull down to the third listing called DRAFT PREFERENCES. You'll see that the draft spots are listed on the left (1 through 15 in order) and your preferences are listed on the right. Here's the drill: Whatever draft spot you'd prefer first, put a 1 next to that draft spot (let's say 1 stays with 1). Then find your second preference (maybe it's draft slot 2 or 4) and put a two there. Keep doing that for all 15 preferences and we'll take that list later.

4) If you don't do anything, your preferences will be in order, 1 through 15. No problem there. If you list multiple preferences that are the same, we'll just go in order and if there aren't any more available numbers (let's say 10 and 11 are missing) we'll slot you in the next available slot.

5) You should realize that you're not guaranteed your top preferences. Some people feel that they are getting 1 or 2 because those are their top preferences. THAT'S NOT THE CASE. You would get 1 or 2 if you were randomly selected first or second. What the draft preferences does is allow you to possibly move to a more preferred spot from where you were randomly selected. Some people like to move up as high as they can go, or move to the middle or even move to the end. When all is said and done, we believe more people will have a preferred draft spot than if we just did it randomly, but mainly everyone is about where they were randomly selected.

If you have ANY questions about how to set your Draft Preferences, don't hesitate to call Tom at 715-445-4612, ext. 653 or contact him at [email protected] or us at [email protected]. We'll help you out.

For the most part, I think everyone understands this, but we don't want any confusion. This takes 30 seconds to set and a little longer for Tom and I to adminster, but in the end it should be good for everyone.

Keep the signups coming and let's get to those draft positions soon!!!

KDS Deadline For The Main Event

Greg - I still don't understand why you have to wait until March 8 - especially in NY. If/when you sell out there, you should be able to do draft spots right away.

But even in Vegas I don't see why you couldn't use a March 1 cutoff and draw leagues and assignments. If you form leagues after that they can still have the process - just in their league and not across all others.

1.Why not lock the preferences as of Midnight March 8th? Couldn't be too hard for STATS to do and it eliminates any chance of confusion.

2. Will owners receive a copy of the Excel spreadsheet you mention? For the entire NFBS? For their League? Would it be possible to change your settings if you were privy to that info before the draw occurs.?

I'm just letting everyone know that we're taking them on Thursday morning and that's the final list.

2. No and no.

KDS Deadline For The Main Event

Okay, here's a friendly reminder to all 301 owners who are currently signed up for the main event: Please set your Draft Preferences by midnight, Wednesday, March 8th. Tom and I will output the Draft Preferences of every owner on Thursday morning, March 9th and create an Excel document of every owner listed alphabetically. That will make things easier when we pick the main event leagues.

Again: DEADLINE IS MIDNIGHT, MARCH 8TH TO SET YOUR KDS PREFERENCES.

See the first post if you need more information on where to find your Draft Preferences.

Just an FYI from Tom and I: This has been an incredibly interesting learning experience for both of us. There is NO doubt in my mind now that doing KDS was the right move as many owners are taking preferences that go away from the traditional 1 through 15. There is a thought process involved for every owner this off-season and many are changing their preferences. You'd be surprised how many owners don't want the first or second pick, and in many cases during the satellite league drawings teams moved up considerably as teams that were originally picked first moved down. I'm sure we'll see a lot of that in the main event as well.

We've also seen a lot of teams who were picked lower grab the 15th spot instead of landing 10, 11 or 12, for instance. So even owners who were randomly selected last are moving up a few spots.

I'm sure KDS won't be as wild in football as it is in baseball, but Tom and I realize that giving you some input in your draft positions is better than no input. And we're learning that the vast majority of you are changing a lot of your preferences, which is good.

Good luck everyone and you'll know your draft positions no later than Monday, March 13th, and maybe a bit earlier. Always remember that if you don't like your draft spot to BLAME TOM. I don't touch those slips of paper! :D :D

KDS Deadline For The Main Event

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Wed Mar 08, 2006 4:05 pm

Just an FYI that the KDS deadline is still midnight PST tonight. We have 330 teams who all have access to this right now. If for some reason we need a fill-in team or we go beyond 330, we'll get the KDS from those new teams upon signing up and/or extend the KDS deadline tomorrow. But right now it's midnight tonight.

Good luck everyone. It's been a fun run to this point.
