NFBC Position Eligibility Now Listed Under NFBC Resources

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Thu Jan 26, 2012 9:05 am

We have now listed our 2012 Position Eligibility lists by position under NFBC Resources. If you go to your MY TEAMS page, you'll see NFBC Resources in the green navigational bar. Player Eligibility is the top link. You can then separate by position.

If you see any issues or have a question on any player, please contact me at [email protected] or post here and I'll make a ruling on that player. Thanks all. All of these position eligibilities are also synched in with our Draft Software for the Slow Drafts, Satellites and Online Championships and so far it looks like all is working well. Good luck to everyone.

Quick question.. Dont remember the answer from previous years.... Does position eligibility change once a player plays a certain position during the season for a certain amount of games? For example the following possibilities - Miguel Cabrera (3B) or Jesus Montero (C)

yes, 10 games = qualifies

Yes, they keep the position eligibility they already have and then add a new position as well. So it's possible that Cabrera could be 1B and 3B eligible once he plays 10 games at third base. Hope that helps.

Question for Greg/Tom. Is it 10 games to become eligible at a postion? as well as 10 games played a position last year also gets you eligible? For all NFBC leauges?

Thanks

Yes, it's 10 games played in 2012 for a new position. Look within the NFBC rules for eligibility from 2011. It's 20 games played at a position in 2011 unless you didn't play more than 20 games in the majors last year. Then there are some ways to gain eligibility at a position.

Greg, you may have answered this before and if so I apologize, but if Yoenis Cespedes signs somewhere, am I correct in assuming he will be UT-only until he gets OF eligibility?
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

No, I haven't answered that yet. We have given position eligibility to players coming from Japan and Cespedes is no different. I would think he would be OF eligible to start right away.

Good call on Cespedes.

Hopefully there are no eligibilty changes now that we are 25 or so drafts into the season, would be a tough break for slow drafters if changes are enforced now.

Greg, some other sites draw a distinction between games started and games played.

If a player starts 10 games but is pulled early every time, or if he comes in as a defensive replacement 10 times at a given position and may be called upon to play only 1 inning in each game he plays the new position, does he have enough "games played" to earn eligibility at that position?

From experience, I can answer this one for you, it is games played.
A player can even play 2b, 3b, ss in the same game and get credit for each position played.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

It's games played at each position, like Doughboys said.
