A Fourth Ultimate League??

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Fri Feb 24, 2006 5:47 am

I'm not sure if there's enough demand for a fourth Ultimate League, but I thought I'd start a thread to find out. If you have any interest at all, let me know and I'll see what we can do. Obviously we won't take official signups for this until we are close to filling, but adding names doesn't hurt at all.

Right now we have eight people who have said they would be interested. Some would prefer an Auction League, but would do a Draft League if we filled it up. All I know is that the demand has exceeded my wildest expectations for this, but I'm more than happy to run them if we fill 'em up.

I know that the following owners want in:

Nick Cassavettes

Scott Keikoan

Dave Kerpen

Gino Yu

Chris Fargis

Three others have said they would be interested if there was enough to fill up a league. Maybe even a 12-teamer with a bigger payout percentage would work!!! Just a thought.

Anyways, if you want to put your name on the list for this Sunday, March 19th event, let me know. If we don't fill it, no problem as we'll pick the spots for the three leagues in a few weeks. But if we get close....then we'll push hard for it.

Thanks everyone.

If we can't get a 4th league together, is it an option to expand the 2 Ult. Drafts from 15 teams to 18 per league and increase the prizes accordingly...1st-50k, 2nd-20k, 3rd-7.5k ? Is this something that you(Greg) and the current 30 Ult. sign-ups would be for or against?

Lajolla,

I would be against an 18 team league. I signed up for 15 teams and I've been preparing for 15 teams for some time now.

Hopefully Greg can fill a seperate 4th league.

Yeah, we'll keep these as 15-team leagues. It's no problem if we only have three Ultimate Leagues and some on the waiting list. It will prove that next year you better secure your spots early if you definitely want to compete in this.

I just thought we'd see if there were any lurkers out there and if so, how close could we come to another league. We'll see and likely make a final decision next week so that we can get draft spots selected and more. Thanks everyone.

Hey, I still need to get Dan's contact into for the auction league when you have time. Call me at 715-445-4612, ext. 284. Thanks.

Yeah, that does make sense Red Sox Nation, we've all been planning on a 15 team draft, to change now is not wise. Hopefully Greg can fill a 4th league for those guys and we can get our draft spots.

Thank You Greg, for sticking with the 15 Teams. I'm all for creative problems solving when there's a need and getting input from others, but going from 15 to 18 is just too significant of a change to make this late in the process.

I have to imagine that by 2007 there will be enough interest and publicity to fill at least 5 Ultimate Leagues.

If the Main Event got 500+ teams and the Grand Prize was bumped to say $150K then you could still have 5 $5K/$40K Ultimates and maybe even one "Super Ultimate" with $10K/$80K structure. Eventually a whole series of entry points as this thing grows....

I mean the MLBAM thing hit so late, with less than 50 spots left, it was going to sell out anyway. 2007 will get a full year of MLBAM promotion/exposure. I could easily see a future Grand Prize Winner ($100K+) getting tickets to a World Series game and having a live TV shot on FOX' national live broadcast...
