7 SPOTS LEFT For Friday, March 2nd Fast/Slow Draft
Okay, there's been a request for another NFBC $150 Fast/Slow Draft League and we'll offer one more on Friday, March 2nd at 7 p.m. EST. These leagues average less than 30 seconds per pick and include 50 rounds, 750 players, so be prepared if you want to jump into this format. But it's another way to compete in the Slow Draft concept (no in-season FAAB) and compete for the growing Slow Draft overall prize pool. To sign up, just post your intentions here or email me at [email protected] and once we get 15 owners for this league we'll get everyone signed up. Don't sign up before it's full. Thanks.
Okay, here's the details and the signup list. Anyone want to join?

just get Lindy & KJ to have a mini rematch here and Gekko will remove the tentative from next to his name, he likes a challenge

Always be closing.

You're in James. I'll put you in Gekko's spot, so we're still at 9 teams. Yes, Stanley had other plans too. Let's stick with the 6 guys we know for sure can make it and if Mark or anyone else can add this later then we'll update it for sure. We're still at 9 spots left everyone!! Thanks.Hoosier Daddy wrote:Greg, I'll take a spot here, thanks - James Chontos.

Re: 9 SPOTS LEFT For Friday, March 2nd Fast/Slow Draft
Will the clock be set to 30 seconds or is that just what the goal is for time?

The agreed goal is 60 seconds per pick. the clock actually starts at 90 seconds. most picks have been done within the 60 seconds, if not quicker. lots of fun in these.

Re: 8 SPOTS LEFT For Friday, March 2nd Fast/Slow Draft
last night's Fast 50 was a blast. high recommend it to anyone looking for the ultimate rush. not thrilled with my team, but against these sharks, that's to be expected.

I agree Mark, crazy draft. There was the interesting dynamic of 14 drafters trying to break land speed records, while one other, ummm me, was doing everything possible to blow out their tires.Gekko wrote:last night's Fast 50 was a blast. high recommend it to anyone looking for the ultimate rush. not thrilled with my team, but against these sharks, that's to be expected.

1 - If you're planning on tracking the draft, forget it. I tried and for most of the draft it was a struggle to remain within even 2 rounds.
2 - Never, ever plan on this draft before checking the calendar to make sure your wife doesn't already have plans that night leaving you home alone with the kids while trying to keep up with these speed addicts.

3 - Make sure your laptop or computer is in good working order. At least twice my screen froze and I had to reboot. Both times it was about 20 picks 'til my turn and it took about 60 seconds to reboot and log back into the draft room. Each time I came back, I was already on the clock without about 3 seconds left before timing out.

3 - Lastly, this draft is not recommended if you require smoke breaks, bathroom breaks.....or breathing breaks.

All joking aside, it was a rush, a unique experience, and a true test of where you stand in preparation on the player pool. There are some unbelievably talented and prepared players in this contest. I found out last night, I am not one of them.

Some friendly advice from someone that did not preset their rankings in case you are worried about the speed of the draft....
There's a lot of talk about how fast these things are, but here's the deal. You're allowed to start thinking about your next pick right after you make your previous one
To me anyway, the key was keeping the queue completely filled with names, even if it was someone I may not want for another 15 rounds but it was someone I thought I might be interested in.
Then when I was fairly confident that my next pick would be someone already in my queue. I picked a position and went to the lower part of the rankings to make sure I wasn't forgetting someone that was buried deep in the rankings, again picking guys I may want until the very end. The key was just getting them in the queue. By round 10 or 12, I had gone through all the positions.
Before you start really thinking about your pick, always have the "default guy" at the top of your queue in case something happens.
If you are still worried, make sure you draft near G-X so you'll get some extra time
And,when in doubt, take a Mariner pitcher

Re: 8 SPOTS LEFT For Friday, March 2nd Fast/Slow Draft
One thing I realized is that if you have 1-2 tradional slow drafts under your belt you will have spent 3-4 weeks getting to know and research every player in the pool if so inclined to do so. That preparation at least gives someone a fighting chance with the sharks in these fast 50 drafts. This one really had not many players fall to far, seems everyone knew thier stuff. if you really liked a player, you could not let him fall to far and in fact had better been prepared to get them earliar than even ADP suggests. There were a few players I wanted and didnt get them because i waited too long or did not reach a round or two earliar. All in all a fun draft.
Re: 8 SPOTS LEFT For Friday, March 2nd Fast/Slow Draft
As one of the unfortunate souls drafting after Glen it was still a total rush!
I also agree with some of the points that Todd and Glen made, especially keeping the Q filled. We drafted 750 players in 3.5 hours and for guys that lack patience (like myself (you happy Jupinka, I admitted it)) it was awesome!! It was speed dating meets fantasy baseball!!

Re: 8 SPOTS LEFT For Friday, March 2nd Fast/Slow Draft
Great learning experience last night against some great NFBC players.
Having done one slow draft and now a fast/slow draft it has helped me
get a working knowledge of the player pool which I find is one of the most
important things you need to get a handle on at this stage.
While everybody made excellent points, Todd Zola hit the nail on the head
in keeping up with the fast/slow draft. Load that Que and start thinking about
your next pick as soon as you make your current choice. I did have a minor
issue with the search button as it didn't always allow me to find the player I
wanted. I suggest anybody doing these drafts to get familiar with some of the
shortcuts for when you are on the clock. Know your position eligibility, I caught
several errors as I moved along.
We finished in 3.5 hours and not once did I feel rushed. Glenneration X did help
in that regard!
Actually, he was just fine but I get paid to break his chops!
Figured between myself and my son, we had a plan to keep up with the draft.
Normally, we use ROTOLAB ( great product for those new to the drafts ) but figured
correctly that would be tough. Printed out Depth Charts to list the picks and EVEN
that was hopeless. Know your players and simply keep up with the draft and handle
the logging of the draft positions afterwards. It is the only way.
I enjoyed the battle, even with Gekko! Speaking of which, I'd like to stop holding
my breath Mark. Feel free to enlighten me on the statement you posted prior to
the draft. By the way, selecting at #10, I was in total agreement with you. I just didn't
feel I needed to announce it to everybody.
Who loves you Big Guy? GL

PS:
David Anthony - I sure hope you passed on the Burrito's from Chipotle and
decided instead to simply make some Sammwiches. Therman would be pleased!
